This week is sustainability week at Dunelm♻️. We are very aware of the impact our business has on the environment. Over the past few years we have worked extremely hard to become more sustainable in everything we do.💚 The aim of this week is to educate our colleagues to learn about what we are doing to become more sustainable, how they can make an impact through the business and how they can make a difference in their personal lives. We have: - Launched new sustainability training on our training platform - Carried out a litter pick in the area around our Head Office - Had a charity raffle to win a hamper full of our most sustainable products in aid of Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust - Had a guest speaker from Better Cotton join us to speak about the work they do and the partnership we now have with them - Hosted a panel with our sustainability experts and our CEO to answer questions about what we are doing in the business.
We’re honoured to be named one of Retail Week x Glassdoor Top UK Retailers to Work for in 2022. 🎉 Thank you to our incredible colleagues whose feedback has helped us earn a spot on this list! https://bit.ly/3zb0JFf

Congratulations to our Code First Girls on their graduation! Yesterday, we celebrated our Code First Girls graduation ceremony. Dunelm have sponsored 10 women to do a 12-week course in Data & Full Stack Development – who have now joined us as full time employees. Our very own Josephine Brown stepped up on stage to show our support and appreciation for their hard work. We love having you as part of the Dunelm team!
What's more important than getting together to talk about mental health and wellbeing? Last week we held our first Wellbeing Buddy Day at our Head Office in Syston. This is the first time so many of our wellbeing buddies from across our business have come together for an event like this. The day consisted of; 💚 Moments to be proud of Reflecting on our moments to be proud of while doing a creative activity 💚 Andy’s Man Club Hearing from #ANDYSMANCLUB , who they are, what they do and how they support men’s mental health 💚 The science of stress and the power of connection An interactive learning session led by the CEO of The Happy Mind Tribe 💚 Our future plans Time for us to think about what we want to be known for, what we want to do as wellbeing buddies and how we are going to do it, forming our plan for the next 12 months. A big thank you to our external speakers, our wellbeing buddies and our diversity, inclusion and wellbeing team for pulling the day together.
Technology blog You’ve hopefully heard of Dunelm, the home of homes and the UK’s number 1 homewares retailer. We have 176 stores across the country and over 10,000 colleagues helping to provide more than 50,000 products either from a physical store or via the 12 million online transactions per year on Dunelm.com. But you might not be aware of the great technology being used and the talented team behind it. This blog hopes to bring these to life and provide some useful, interesting and fun insight along the way. In true Dunelm Tech fashion, the blog is self-organising and democratised. It’s run by volunteers with an interest in getting our message “out there” and open to the whole team (and beyond) to contribute to. With that in mind, expect to see everything from high level whim-driven musings about technological trends right through to deep-dive technical discussions and personal projects. We’ll also be drafting in guest contributors from the wider organisation to keep things varied and highlight how our tech makes a difference where it counts!
End of year event 2022 As our financial year comes to an end and our new one begins, we have been celebrating our success with our colleagues in many ways. Today at our Syston support centre over 600 colleagues joined us to hear our CEO Nick set out our new ‘plan on a page’ for the next financial year. 🎉 The plan sets out our strategy for the coming year, focusing on our purpose, our ambitions, our core values, our strategic initiatives and having our colleagues at the heart of the business. We have celebrated where we can over the past 2 years, but this is our biggest yet. Our itinerary for the day included: -Each department coming together to talk plans for the coming year, and share achievements from the last -The presentation of a cheque for £600,000 to our charity partner Mind -A variety of yummy food trucks -Garden games and much more ☀️🏡 We are grateful of every single colleague who has helped us get through the past 2 years. We truly are stronger together. 💚
Bring your dog to work day Today we welcomed some of our favourite furry colleagues into our Syston Head Office for Bring Your Dog To Work Day. Among the crew were Pickle and Bella - the smallest and biggest of the bunch 🐶 At Dunelm, feeling at home wherever you work is something that's hugely important to us, so what better way to celebrate that than to invite the pooches in for a day of treats and strokes? We'll let you work out how long it took us to get this picture...
International Men's Mental Health Week It’s International Men’s Health Week, and this year we’re working with Retail Trust and our Gender Equality Network to get more men talking about our health, feelings, and worries. Our colleagues can find advice, tips and guidance from some of the top experts in male mental health. Talking really does save lives. Within Dunelm, we have a number of resources available for our colleagues if they need support. We have a number of wellbeing buddies throughout Dunelm and in different sites, that colleagues can speak to about a range of topics and to seek support We have four colleague networks - LGBTQ+, Gender Equality, Disability and Neurodiversity and Ethnicity & Race. The networks are a space for conversation and driving positive change.
Mental Health Awareness Week This years' Mental Health Awareness Week focuses on loneliness and whilst loneliness isn't in itself a mental health problem, the feelings of being disconnected and alone are often linked to common feelings of low mood and anxiety. Loneliness can also be a cause of mental health problems or as a result of ongoing poor mental health. We talk about mental health a lot at Dunelm because we take it seriously. We partner with charities like #mind and organisations like Retail Trust because we understand how important good mental health is, for everyone. When focusing on loneliness, there are suggested ways in which we can try and manage it: 💚Take it slow 💚Make new connections 💚Try peer support 💚Try to open up 💚Talking therapies 💚Be careful when comparing yourself to others 💚Look after yourself One of our core values is Stronger Together, and this is even more prominent during Mental Health Awareness Week. Let’s do our best to look after one another, and ourselves.
