Elsevier celebrates Black History Month and honours the accomplishments of our people of Black heritage and their communities. The contributions of Black people all over the world have been varied and numerous in so many areas of society. Their incredible bravery, boundless creativity, and innovation have made the world a great place. “Almost always, the creative dedicated minority has made the world better” - Martin Luther King Jr. Black History Month is the annual celebration and commemoration of moments in history, achievements and contributions that Black people have made. First brought to the UK in the 1980s, Black History Month was initially introduced to the country by a member of the Greater London Council, Akyaaba Addai Sebo. Since 1987, Black History Month has been celebrated annually in the UK, to eradicate discrimination and encourage racial equality. #DEI #elsevierdiversity #blackhistorymonth

“Nothing is more strongly correlated with high levels of employee engagement than the coaching capability of managers.” That’s what Zenger Folkman noted in their 2019 paper - How developing a coaching culture pays off – and we agree. Developing Elevate, our coaching culture across Elsevier aligns with the culture that we are building, which reflect coaching behaviours such as humility, giving and receiving feedback, authenticity as well as building partnerships. The approach we take is that coaching truly has the power to elevate every conversation. We see coaching as something for everyone, something we can use every day, with our peers, colleagues, customers, even friends and family. Through great coaching, individuals at Elsevier will be able to help others realize their potential. "Through Elevate, I have had deep, open, honest conversations with other leaders at Elsevier. We discussed our own styles and our aspirational traces and were honest with ourselves about where we are succeeding and where we are falling short. We learned skills to truly Elevate every ...
BIPOC and women employees ranked their CEOs: These were the top 10 for 2021. The list includes Elsevier's CEO. These leaders earned high marks based on 10 million anonymous ratings from women and BIPOC employees at more than 60,000 companies. This is the fourth annual survey of its kind and it’s noteworthy that after the violence against BIPOC and AAPI individuals over the past year, the rankings have shifted significantly. Microsoft’s Satya Nadella dropped from the No. 1 spot in 2020 down to No. 11 this year and Google’s Sundar Pichai fell from the No. 3 spot to No. 12. There are no female CEOs at the top of the rankings. Kumsal Bayazit of Elsevier was the closest, in 18th place, and Medela CEO Annette Brüls came next at No. 26. And speaking of women, Comparably conducted another poll asking female employees to rank their CEOs. Here we see two female CEOs in the top 10 for large companies and some overlap with those who ranked best for diversity.
Meet the year's top gender equality advocates at work. Elsevier's CEO is listed. Career experts at Comparably.com are back with their list of the best CEOs renowned for supporting women in the workplace. All winners from large companies (with 500+ workers) belong in the top five per cent of all CEOs who were rated by female employees in the past 12 months, the report said.
The transforming power of I&D: how Elsevier is taking up the challenge. In her keynote at the Gender Summit, Elsevier CEO Kumsal Bayazit discusses how to build a more inclusive and transparent research ecosystem. In 2021, the international Gender Summits celebrated their 10th anniversary, showcasing their remarkable ability to bring together so many diverse members of our research community. Over the past decade, they have helped to define the debate and catalyze action to advance women in science and embed the sex and gender dimension in research. Their success is testament to the work of people like Dr Elizabeth Pollitzer, Prof Martina Schraudner and all the leaders who have collaborated on this journey around the world. One of my heroes, the late US supreme court justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, articulated this ethos so beautifully: Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.
