To conclude our #1921Census anniversary posts for the month - though really, the 1921 Census posts will never actually end - our Research Specialist Jen Baldwin chatted to us about everything she has learned from searching the census practically every day for a year. Amongst other things, she talks about the importance of historical maps, comparing your ancestor's handwriting to other sources, and thinking creatively when pinpointing those slightly more elusive forebears. It's amazing to think that even with decades of research and genealogy experience, there are still routes to growing and learning about our past. We're so happy to announce that we are now partnering with the Tech Talent Charter as a proud signatory, in support of our mission to become a more diverse and inclusive company, and alongside hundreds of other industry leaders. The TTC are a government-supported membership group that have helped bring together 700+ companies to drive greater diversity and inclusion within the tech landscape. In bringing us together, we all have more insight, resource and capability to change the future of tech. As CEO Debbie Forster MBE states herself - no one company can do this alone. There has to be a social and cultural shift within tech industries in order to see substantial and sustainable change. It's an important initiative we're so proud to support, and we're ready to action change for the better. Together, with enough insight and effort, we can make the tech ecosystem one in which people of any and all backgrounds are welcomed, represented, and valued. In another move to support our 12-month D&I action plan, we are proud to announce that Findmypast are now members of Neurodiversity in Business (NiB) - the Neurodiversity Charity. Led by Dan Harris, NIB is an industry forum which draws upon the cumulative knowledge of neurodivergent experts and leading companies to share best practice and improve the employment and experience of the neurodiverse workforce. Yet again, it's another instance in which community support, resource and insight will prove ineffably valuable to systemic workforce change. Our 2021 Diversity and Inclusion report showed that 7% of those interviewed identify as neurodiverse. It's our job to make sure they are included, accommodated, and respected within the workforce. It's also our job to make sure that our colleagues are educated on neurodiversity, understanding of best practice when approaching it, and well-informed in offering an inclusive working experience. We're so happy to be taking this step, proud to be supporting NIB, and excited to be drawing from their vast and expert experience in helping drive positive change. The hugest of congratulations to our team of Code First Girls engineers - Ana, Adonelle S., Edita, Imane, and Morag - for graduating yesterday with the CFG Nano degree 🎉 They've put in months of hard work into both their degrees and their work here at Findmypast, and we couldn't be more proud. Each brings their own individual wealth of experience and knowledge, and our team is stronger than ever for it. We hope you're all celebrating this weekend 💗 #codefirstgirls #womenintech #womeninengineering #womeninstem #celebration #engineers #softwareengineer
It's just all celebrations in the Findmypast team at the moment 🎉 Our very own Liam Boyle, customer support advisor, took advantage of our #LearningAndDevelopment budget to take the CIM | The Chartered Institute of Marketing Marketing Principles Level 3 course. Even better, he achieved a distinction, with an incredible 96%. Of course, we had to send him a little hamper to go along with his celebratory drink. We can't wait to see where this path takes you, Liam - what a talented team we have ❤️ #achievement #marketing #digitalmarketing
To kick off Women's History Month, and with #InternationalWomensDay tomorrow, we have talks from a variety of experts scheduled for our team this week. This morning, the brilliant Valentina Milanova 🇺🇦, founder of our trusted partner Daye, hosted a virtual breakfast to talk about the gender gap in healthcare and the importance of understanding the vaginal microbiome. With understanding of female health lagging far behind male counterparts, and the drastic difference in AFAB representation in clinical trials, there is still so much education needed in this space. This talk wasn't just for the women at Findmypast, though, it was open to the whole team: people with wives, children, friends and family with female biology, and people who weren't assigned female at birth. We all have important women in our lives, after all. It's incredibly important work, and Valentina did an amazing job with a truly engaging - and at points, shocking - presentation. Thank you Daye, for all the wonderful work you do. #womenshistorymonth #gendergap #womenshealth #genderdiversity #genderequality
Thanks to the brilliant #internationalwomensday2023 speakers at Findmypast this week, I've been reflecting on the challenges and opportunities to increase women’s participation in technology
Our CEO Tamsin Todd is featured in the Financial Times today talking about the tech skills shortfall. The need for technology in all kinds of organisations is growing faster than the supply; one of the reasons why we partnered with Code First Girls, funding five of our team through a three-month computer science courseđź’ˇ The full article: https://lnkd.in/dM8rUM_A
