Did you know for 28% of girls, the only exercise they do is part of school PE lessons? Nuffield Health are on a mission to change that. To help young people discover the joy of keeping active, Move Together is a community initiative providing free weekly fitness classes for girls aged 11-16. Move Together sessions are run by Nuffield Health fitness instructors. The specially designed classes help girls to build strength, confidence and get them moving. It’s also the perfect opportunity for them to have fun and make new friends in a safe and secure environment. Whether they want to try something new, learn from our friendly instructors or feel better inside, let’s help more young people get and stay active this summer. Find your nearest class on the link
This June we're proud to be joining our LGBTQ+ colleagues and communities as we celebrate Pride Month. At Nuffield Health, we welcome everyone. That's why we are proud to support Pride 2023 and the LGBTQIA+ community, with diversity and inclusivity for all at the heart of all we stand for. We hear from members of our LGBTQIA+ Equity forum, Jay Morris, Jacqs Harper and Hope Reeves. Together, we have the power to build an inclusive space where all our people and beneficiaries feel accepted as their true selves, and everyone has an equal voice. We can only achieve this if we continue to listen to, learn from and share the experiences of others so we can better understand our differences and drive forward the opportunities that enable change.
International Women's Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. To celebrate International Women’s Day 2023, we spoke to women across different sectors of the business. In this interview, we speak to Alexandra Cadman, one of our Wellbeing Personal Trainer’s at Plymouth Fitness and Wellbeing Gym, Rebecca Isherwood, an Enterprise Architect and Danielle Raath, Staff Nurse Outpatients, about the importance of International Women’s Day and it’s personal meanings, too.
February is LGBTQ+ History Month, so we asked our Equity Specialist Grace Boleyn-St Aubyn, what this month means to her. "LGBTQ history month is an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come, and how far there is still to go. We tend to think of oppression of LGBTQ people as something in the past... this is an ongoing battle that will likely continue for some time. LGBTQ+ history month reminds us of that." This moth, our ambassador Dame Kelly Holmes joined us in Parliament to call for the government to publish a mental health strategy which recognises the importance of sport and exercise. As well as a decrease in physical activity, our Healthier Nation Index shows that 1 in 3 of us have suffered with poor mental health in the last 12 months. These statistics need to change - and quickly. There is an intrinsic link between physical activity and mental health. We're working with Dame Kelly to raise awareness of this, calling on the government to hit the NHS target for exercise by the end of the decade. Our ambition is to build a healthier nation, and we're asking for further support from those who are able to make a change.
Our Healthier Nation Index provides insight into how the nation is feeling about their health and wellbeing and gives employers a better understanding of the best, most effective ways they can support their employees. One significant finding from the research shows that two-thirds of employees don’t feel comfortable raising a mental health issue or emotional issue with their employer. It’s more important than ever that employers find ways to create inclusive and connected workplace environments where people feel supported. Not only will this help productivity, but it will also boost happiness levels. These issues can be tackled through connectivity, communication and increased support for those who are struggling.
