Our colleagues feeling they can bring their whole self to work really matters to us, and as part of National Coming Out Day we’re proud to share Natalie’s coming out story. 🌈 Natalie is currently on a placement at Severn Trent within our technology team, and she came out as transgender during her placement. Here she shares her experience of coming out in the workplace and what it means to be trans. We know we’re stronger together, and want to create real change through education and sharing the challenges LGBTQ+ individuals experience so we’re really thankful to Natalie for sharing her story with us! The BAME apprenticeship awards certainly didn’t disappoint! 🎉 🙌 Not only did we receive highly commended Digital and Technology Apprentice, with Jazz, but Hossam also received highly commended in the legal category too. We’ve bagged an award for Best Employee Experience! We had a fantastic night at the CIPD ’s People Management Awards this week, which was made even better by winning this truly brilliant award! 🏆 So, how did we do it? Well to put it simply, we didn’t miss a heartbeat in supporting the delivery of our plans for customers, the environment and our communities, whilst keeping our colleagues safe and well engaged during the pandemic. Here’s just a few things we did: - Liv, our CEO, hosted 90-minute events over eight weeks to talk to every single colleague about our plans - Launched new advisory groups to continue progressing inclusion - Personally contacted over 600 of our vulnerable colleagues to put in place Covid care plans - Lifted colleague spirits with our 'Share a Smile' virtual event nights, featuring a host of celebrity guests! But that’s just a few things we did to make big strides on our bold ambitions whilst delivering a fantastic employee experience. Read more at: http://ms.spr.ly/6041XikPf
As part of #NationalInclusionWeek2021, we thought it was no better time to introduce you to our four wonderful advisory groups who work to make inclusion and everyday reality. Our four groups - Disability, LGBTQ+, Women in Operations and STEM and Ethnicity, are a key driver behind our great progress when it comes to inclusion in the workplace and throughout our communities too - and we’re really proud of all they achieve whether that’s driving change to update our policies and recruitment practices to raising awareness amongst our colleagues. This week we met our class of 2021 graduates face to face for the first time! We recruited them the virtual way this time, so it was so lovely to see them in person for the pre-joiner event before they start in September. With many of the graduates starting working life for the first time, we wanted to give them an overview of what their first few months will look like, so day one doesn’t look so daunting! And after finally meeting in person, we also couldn’t miss the chance to do some networking, so they could get to know each other! We’re so looking forward to welcoming you in the coming weeks class of 2021! To find our more about our grad jobs go to: http://ms.spr.ly/6048nNlS2 #gradjobs
We’re continuing to celebrate the wonderful women we have in engineering at Severn Trent, as we believe more women should think about all the brilliant opportunities in this space. Listen to Georgia’s story, who started her journey with us when she was just 18 years old, after studying Maths, Chemistry and Physics at A-level. Georgia is a strong advocate for more young girls thinking of a career in engineering, and says if she could give any advice to those thinking about it, it would be: ‘’Just take on every opportunity you’re given. If you’re offered something and a bit nervous about it, just take it – go for it!’’ Explore our engineering jobs today: severntrent.com/careers #INWED21
It’s International Women in Engineering Day – and that means we’re raising the profile of women in engineering, celebrating the wonderful women in our business and sharing the brilliant opportunities available when it comes to engineering at Severn Trent! Listen to Serena’s story, who’s journey started with us just over two years ago when she joined our project management apprenticeship. Serena says: ‘’We’ve got a good strong network of women, encouraging and supporting me do what I do.’’ Explore our engineering jobs today: https://lnkd.in/eaFkkci #INWED21
We’re busy celebrating Pride here at Severn Trent, and today Bronagh, Declan and Charminda tell us why Pride month is such an important one to celebrate. Declan, Biosolids Product Manager said: ‘’Pride month is a reminder that we should have the right to be and act ourselves, in and outside of work.’’ Be proud of who you are. 🌈 #Pride2021
We’re continuing to keep up the momentum here at Severn Trent with Pride. We’ve just hosted a lunch and learn to educate our colleagues on the history of Pride! Carl, one of our Design Technicians, who hosted the session and plays a key role in our LGBTQ+ advisory group said: ‘’It’s important we think about the history of Pride month, so we don't forget the struggles that we have gone through just to be treated the same. It’s important that we keep talking about it, so that one day, all the people of this amazing world we live in, can all be their true selves without fear.’’ With over 60 colleagues joining, we really hope everyone enjoyed the session, and a huge thanks to Carl for hosting! Be proud of who you are. 🌈 #Pride2021
