At Skipton, listening to our colleagues is part of who we are. Today we’ve launched our latest colleague listening survey, giving everyone a consistent, confidential space to share their honest experience - whether positive or otherwise - and shape what comes next. Our approach to colleague listening is built around a simple belief: That the best ideas for improving our colleague experience come from the people who live it every day. Through Peakon, we gather feedback throughout the year across things that matter most to our colleagues - from wellbeing and workload to leadership and recognition. But listening is only half the story. What really matters is what we do next. We use these insights to drive meaningful action - both at team level and across the organisation - helping us build a culture rooted in trust, transparency and continuous improvement. This isn’t about chasing engagement scores. It’s about creating an environment where colleagues feel heard, valued and empowered to make a difference. If you’re someone who wants your voice to count - and to see real change happen as a result - we’d love you to be part of our journey. hashtag#ColleagueExperience hashtag#ColleagueListening hashtag#Engagement hashtag#LifeAtSkipton
We were delighted to welcome footballing legend, John Barnes, to Skipton Building Society’s Head Office last week to kick off our World Cup celebrations – and what an incredible event it was. John shared reflections from his distinguished career, offering valuable insights into how the principles of teamwork, resilience and collective purpose in football can be applied within a business environment. He also spoke about issues close to his heart – and yes, he even did the rap! 🙌 It was fantastic to see so many colleagues together, feeling energised and leaving the Atrium with a huge smile on their faces. We’ve even seen posts on social media calling it “the best day at work ever”… which says it all! 😊 John also generously took the time to sign shirts and pose for photographs, creating a memorable experience for those attending. During his visit, he toured our newly refurbished collaboration space, showcasing our continued investment in creating environments that support teamwork and innovation. A truly inspiring event that brought colleagues together and reinforced the importance of working as one team.
Not long to go! Skipton Building Society is proud to be the headline sponsor of Armed Forces Day in Scarborough – Saturday 27 June. Join us on Scarborough’s South Bay near the formal area – just look out for the bright blue marquee! We’ll be there celebrating the incredible contribution of our Armed Forces community and showing our ongoing support as signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant. Come down, say hello, and be part of an unforgettable day supporting those who serve.
To us, Society is a place where everyone can be themselves – their amazing true self – in everything they do. Workplace very much included. We asked Amy Frankland and Julie Arnold from our Pride Alliance network, what Pride means to them. ‘Pride has meant that I can show up for my colleagues as an ally and be part of a community within the Society. I have friends and family outside of the Society who are LGBTQI+, and I would want them to have the same sense of space and collaboration in their workplaces as we do at Skipton. The Alliance is a group I am very proud to be a part of.’ – Amy Frankland 'While the first Pride was a riot and the world looks more accepting now, we still need Pride to not only celebrate how far we have come but to remind everybody of how much more still needs to happen to make the world a fairer place.’ – Julie Arnold Follow us for more information and to see more stories from our amazing colleagues.

Celebrating the brilliant colleagues bringing our behaviours to life At Skipton, it’s our people who make us who we are. Every day, colleagues across the Society show what it means to live our behaviours and be brave, curious, accountable, collaborative, and remain founded on fairness. Our Star Awards are all about celebrating those moments - the ones where someone goes the extra mile to help more people into homes, make their money work harder and make membership matter. The moments where our people live our behaviours instinctively, making a difference to the lives of our members or their colleagues. On Thursday night we announced our latest winners and we’re proud to shine a light on them. ✨ Being Brave – Rebecca Bolton ✨ Being Curious – Sharon Johnson ✨ Being Accountable – Georgi Kimberley ✨ Being Collaborative – Sue Cree ✨ Founded on Fairness – Rachel Drummond ✨ Team Award – Skipton Group Home Affordability Index ✨ Chair Award – Sam Lewis We also celebrated our Branch teams of the year: ✨ Multisite Branch of the Year – Ilkley/Otley ✨ Branch of the Year – Southport These colleagues reflect the very best of who we are - a Society that recognises, celebrates and rewards the people who make Skipton such a special place to work. A huge congratulations to all our winners, and to everyone who was nominated and shortlisted this year. You make a difference every day — and we’re so proud to celebrate you.
Congratulations to our Star Awards shortlistees We’re incredibly proud of what our colleagues do to support members and each other - day in, day out. The Star Awards is our Society-wide, peer-to-peer recognition scheme designed to highlight and reward colleagues for great work that's driven by our behaviours. We were wowed that 648 of our people took time out of their day to nominate during October and we had some truly awe-inspiring nominations – with over 1,100 in total. When people feel valued and recognised for showing their behaviours, they thrive, and so does the organisation. That’s why the Star Awards are so important to us. This week we announced our shortlisted colleagues… the best of the best. Congratulations to you all. We’ll share our winners’ stories after they’ve been announced on 29 January.
