At Tesco we have no time for waste, so we’ve produced a new range of cold-pressed juices using wonky fruit and vegetables that may have otherwise gone unused. “These delicious juices are the latest way that we are helping tackle food waste by ensuring as much of the crop as possible gets used. The fruit and vegetables being used in the range falls outside the specifications for fresh produce and although they might not be flawless to look at they still offer shoppers a great taste.” says Jo Batty Tesco prepared fruit buyer. Our Software Engineering teams tackle lots of different problems, and their innovative solutions help us to serve our customers a little better every day. The way these teams are shaped is important to the impact that they can have; something which was debated at last week’s Devoxx UK conference, where Engineering Director Andy Hedges, and Head of Software Engineering Adrian Spender took to the stage. They were joined by hundreds of software engineers for a session which explored the complexities of cross-functional teams, and some solutions to this challenge. If this sparks your interest, why not check out our Software Engineering roles at http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQWon
It’s Mental Health Awareness Week. We all have mental health, just like physical health. And like physical health, it can be good, bad and everything in between. We want to help colleagues to look after their mental well-being, so we’ve launched a range of activities, such as modules, e-learning courses and mental health roadshows across the country.

We’re all familiar with the “beep” of a till transaction, but what does the beep really mean? One focus of our Technology team is the ability to account for and reconcile every single transaction that happens on every one of our 40,000 tills across the UK; just one of the complexities and challenges which comes with a distributed system like this. Two years ago, Maria Simpson from our Brigg Superstore in Lincolnshire had a brilliant idea. She suggested giving free fruit to children to eat during shopping trips as an alternative to sweets. Today, that one idea has grown into a nationwide project, we now offer “Free Fruit for Kids” in over 800 stores across the country. We’ve given over 50 million pieces of free fruit away to kids since 2016. That’s an incredible achievement, and it means literally millions of children have had a healthy, free piece of fruit from Tesco in the last two years. It’s great that one colleague’s idea has had such a huge impact. Explore opportunities to get on at http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQfjS http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQfjJ
Our business is full of varied opportunities and no two days are the same. This, coupled with our collaborative culture, is something we’re really proud of. We believe the most rewarding way to develop is through real-life business experience, which is why apprentices join our teams by hitting the ground running, giving them the opportunity to have a real impact from the start.
