Our Heritage Our story begins in 1971 along the cobblestone streets of Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market. It was here where Starbucks opened its first store, offering fresh-roasted coffee beans, tea and spices from around the world for our customers to take home. Our name was inspired by the classic tale, “Moby-Dick,” evoking the seafaring tradition of the early coffee traders. Ten years later, a young New Yorker named Howard Schultz would walk through these doors and become captivated with Starbucks coffee from his first sip. After joining the company in 1982, a different cobblestone road would lead him to another discovery. It was on a trip to Milan in 1983 that Howard first experienced Italy’s coffeehouses, and he returned to Seattle inspired to bring the warmth and artistry of its coffee culture to Starbucks. By 1987, we swapped our brown aprons for green ones and embarked on our next chapter as a coffeehouse. Starbucks would soon expand to Chicago and Vancouver, Canada and then on to California, Washington, D.C. and New York. By 1996, we would cross the Pacific to open our first store in Japan, followed by Europe in 1998 and China in 1999. Over the next two decades, we would grow to welcome millions of customers each week and become a part of the fabric of tens of thousands of neighborhoods all around the world. In everything we do, we are always dedicated to Our Mission: To be the premier purveyor of the finest coffee in the world, inspiring and nurturing the human spirit — one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.

At Lidl, we’re a pretty close bunch. Sure, we all bring something unique to the table — but when you scratch below the surface, we’ve also got a whole lot in common. We’re plate spinners and problem solvers, working hard to keep homes stocked up across the UK. Just like you. We opened the doors to our first Lidl GB store in 1994. Today, three decades later, we’re proud to have more than 1,000 stores and 13 regional distribution centres filled with 35,000 exceptional colleagues across Great Britain - and we're still growing. The secret to our success? Offering the highest quality products at the lowest possible prices. A commitment to the very best service. And a group of incredible colleagues to take us forward and into the future. Our journey is moulded by you — the things that set you apart and the things that make us one amazing team. We all pitch in. Every role is a vital link in our chain, so we get stuck in to go the extra mile. Individually, we bring our own personalities, motivations and backgrounds, but together, we’re part of a team that makes a real difference. Yes, when you’re here you’ll work hard, but we’re always in it together — no matter who we are. We provide opportunities. As part of the Schwarz retail group, we belong to one of the world’s leading organisations in the food retail industry with around 382,400 employees across 12,600 stores, more than 230 logistics centres and warehouses globally. To be one of the biggest supermarkets out there, we don’t believe in glass ceilings or barriers. If you give it your all, there’ll be plenty of chances to train, learn, develop, move up, switch departments, specialise and understand as much of our business as you want. We make a difference. From laughing with our colleagues to helping out our customers, everything we do makes an impact that you’ll instantly see and feel. It’s not because we want to shout about it, it’s because we’re genuinely proud that everything we do can make somebody’s day, making the Lidl way a better way. No matter your role, you’ll find that you can make your mark on our success story. We’re always looking for motivated people who are ready to make our stores, supply chains, and shopping experience the best they can be. In 1952 Colonel Harland Sanders opened the first KFC restaurant in Utah. Since then, his perfectly crafted Original Recipe chicken and its secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices has become famous all over the world, and today we have over 900 restaurants across the UK and Ireland. The Colonel was all about doing things the right way. That means our chicken is delivered fresh from farm to restaurant in 48 hours. It’s prepared carefully by hand in-restaurant by trained cooks, using the very best chicken reared to strict welfare standards. But we’re not just about the chicken (although ours is always Finger Lickin’ Good). We’re also about making a positive social and environmental impact – which includes becoming a net-zero business, helping people get a foot on the work ladder, caring for our communities, and offering balanced food choices. At KFC, there’s more Behind the Bucket than you think. KFC came to the UK in 1965, opening our first restaurant in Preston. Today, we are a £1 billion+ company with 960 restaurants and 28,000+ team members. KFC is one of 5 brands operated by parent company Yum!, the world’s largest restaurant group with over 50,000 restaurants across the globe. Despite being a large, global organisation, we operate under a de-centralised structure with our UK business having autonomy over business/people strategy. KFC is famous around the world for its Original Recipe Fried Chicken – but there’s more behind the bucket than you think. We like to think of ourselves as a ‘people business’, that just happens to sell chicken and chips. We believe in doing things ‘the right way’. It isn’t always easy, but it’s always better. It’s what the Colonel believed back in 1952, and it’s what we still believe in now. In not cutting corners. In hand-breading our chicken in store, all day, every day. In caring about the food we serve, and the people we serve it too. And most importantly, in looking after our people. The Colonel’s story still inspires us today. It reminds us how grit, perseverance, dedication and ambition, along with hard work, can create success; regardless of your age or where you come from. We believe our purpose as an employer is to help our people find their own ‘secret recipe’ in life. We empower people to be their best self, make a difference and have fun.
