In the third and final segment of our interview with Alejandra Pardo, she touches on the theme of this years International Women's Day, and the aspects of being a Fronton that she loves most. With IWD 2023's theme being #EmbraceEquity, why do you think equity is important in the workplace? It's good and well to preach equality in the corporate world, but if you really want to make an impact, you should work first on bridging the gap between genders, and work towards fairness; so we may, one day, reach full equity. What do you love most about your work at Frontiers? Best at Frontiers is the people, it is a very generic answer, but it's the absolute truth. I am very comfortable being myself and everyone around me allows for a very open and safe space to work and innovate. The number of vacation days, flexible schedule and remote working help too! Following on with our Interview with Pardo, an Audience Strategy Manager at Frontiers, here she shares valuable advice to help achieve goals and succeed in careers. What is the most important piece of advice you have been given? When I was still working on journalism: "I don't need something perfect, I need it by the deadline". You need to learn to make the most with the time you are given, because nothing will be perfect, ever; but still, things need to be delivered. So strive to give the best solution in the time you have. On IWD what is the most important message you want to send to young women thinking about a career in tech or publishing? Especially for tech, just don't be afraid. You will most probably know more than you think, and you can learn the rest along the way. Academic background only counts until a moment, the rest is pure experience, and you cannot get experience if you don't go for it. Don't be afraid to call out when someone does not respect you or your work. It is more than ok to speak out and to stand for how you want to be treated and acknowledged. ...Show more

To celebrate International Women’s Day, I interviewed Alejandra Pardo, one of our exceptional employees, known as ‘Frontons,’. Over the next week I will be sharing Pardo’s responses to questions about working in the Tech industry as a Fronton, pushing boundaries and driving innovation to support open science. Can you explain your role and what you do at Frontiers? I'm one of the CRM managers at Frontiers I recruit, onboard and manage a team of highly technical business and data analysts. Our goal as a team is to have a deep understanding of our audiences, their behaviour and their engagement history, and to build up specific segmentations that will allow us to tailor the customer experience to each researcher. Why do you think it's important to celebrate IWD? As in anything else on any job you may have, it's important to take a moment, and look back to see what you have achieved up until now.
