Pros

- The possibility to be creative due to the brand diversity. Although this won’t go far as the company does not fully embrace diverse ideas which in turn stunts creativity. - Some genuinely amazing people with brilliant diverse creative minds which is lovely to experience (one of the perks of being London based & in a multi-cultural City). But…

Cons

And it’s a big BUT… The cons far outweigh any of the above if you are a Black, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, working-class, single parent, working mother, disabled etc. Which is like a lot of people. I am all of these things and the way I’ve been treated has crashed my mental health and well-being to a place I never thought possible. Only saving grace is that in a digital age we have evidence and evidence is beautiful. It does not lie. Thank you to everyone who has left reviews and I am leaving my review in the hopes it will help someone else in time. A.S. Watson and the eLab is a culturally toxic cesspit of bullying and harassment! Watch out and remember to always keep records as you go and advocate for yourself. Eventually someone will listen. Thank you to the UK’s Employment Tribunal system. It really is a life saver when your rights are not upheld and you’re being slandered & lied about in court documents.

Unaccountability and Discrimination

Pros

Team are friendly, that’s it

Cons

- No clarity on internal structure - Discriminatory and ageist language used by male staff to female staff on internal call multiple times and no flagging…multiple times - Staff have countlessly used discriminatory language to describe BAME clients and talent - People working 2 roles due to lack of support and poor staff retention. - People have left their roles within weeks of start date - Hiring process is abysmal to say the least - Equipment used cannot be deemed industry standard - Work Socials are next to never. Some people may not want to attend which is fine, but at least have SOMETHING to decline. - Difficult to have faith in management when said management partake in and encourage bypassing of business regulations - Performative activism, it’s honestly embarrassing ( I wish I could submit video evidence) - HR are rookies, have no sensitivity and are another indication to the business’ poor employee retention stats

Pros

Some good company discount and benefits

Cons

From my first day I felt very unwelcome - there seemed to be a general lack of patience and kindness from senior/ long-term members of the team and absolutely no trust in my capabilities as a designer. As others have mentioned, this is not design work– it is more like art-working and web development, this isn't explained until you start. You’re forced to use far too many workflow systems and communication platforms to constantly prove you’re doing the work. Used collectively serves no purpose besides wasting a lot of time and causing chaos. Subsequently you spend most of your days updating a spreadsheet / on calls / sending lists to managers/seniors who refuse to admit the system is flawed. 99% of the 'design work' is usually just amending existing projects done by someone else - sometimes these can be from around 2/3 years ago. This is to save time because you waste most of it doing unnecessary admin. Managers and seniors are inexperienced, unapproachable and patronising. They only contact you when you've done something wrong. The equipment provided was awful - with absolutely no effort made to ensure a comfortable home set up. Office social life is non-existent. If you are off sick, management will continue to bombard you or ask you to 'be on hand'.
