I worked for Iceland for 15 months, a time that I will never get back.
This company is a complete joke to work for. Prior to working for them I only had 2 jobs in 20 years. This has a Tory government mentality where the multi millionaires at the top have an attitude of we will do what we want, when we want, and we will pay the fine when we get caught and move on to the next hair brain idea that's not thought through. There is NO work life balance. There is. NO time to take a break. You are expected to treat the staff like rubbish - that's how you become an "Iceland Manager" you TELL your staff that they need to stay past their time to finish a task that is impossible to complete and they will not be paid, or the consequence is you will cut their hours back to their 7.5 hour contract. There's intimidation from top all the way down. The only way I can describe it, is that for most of the colleagues this has been their 1st or only job. They are conditioned to think that this is how people are treated in retail (told it's the same everywhere else) and that they suffer from Stockholm syndrome. They are too frightened to leave and think it's great as they have a level of service they have built up that they can't afford to start over.
