Pros

- The people I work with day-to-day are excellent. Everyone can be trusted to do their job and do it well. - I'm a big fan of Intercom as a product and enjoy working on it. There are really interesting problems to solve. - There are plenty of opportunities for growth, and it's great to see engineers have a path to either continue as an IC or go into management.

Cons

- The CEO will not accept feedback unless it's 100% positive and in agreement with him. My colleagues will share very polite and fair feedback, but he will ignore it claiming they're not "the best", nor are they "strong" and if any of us don't like it, we should quit. Not exactly a display of the growth mindset we allegedly value? - I was deeply unimpressed to hear the CEO insult the legally required consultancies for making people redundant in Eire and the UK, multiple times. These laws are there to protect workers, so it's disheartening to hear that it seems he'd like it to be easier to get rid of us en masse. - The change in strategy has *still* not been translated into what it means for us in engineering. Plus the restructuring that's incoming due to layoffs, we have no idea if what we're working on now (and planning to work on next) is aligned with the strategy and what our team structures are going to be longer term. - The open and honest culture is slowly dissolving. Who would want to share non-positive feedback if they're just going to be met with vague insults?

Pros

One of the biggest positives is the opportunity to work on meaningful, high-impact projects. The company provides access to the right tools, resources, and support needed to do great work. As a senior engineer, I feel trusted to think critically about problems, challenge assumptions, and help reframe solutions when needed. Stakeholders and the broader business are receptive to feedback, which creates a strong environment for collaboration and problem-solving. When blockers come up, my manager and the organization move quickly to remove them. Overall, it’s a fast-moving, high-trust environment where strong engineers can make a real impact.

Cons

The pace is very fast, which can be a challenge depending on how someone prefers to work. Priorities, tools, and ways of working can change quickly, and it requires a willingness to adapt, learn, and rewire how you approach problems. For people who prefer slower, more predictable environments, the pace may feel intense at times. However, for those who are comfortable with change and motivated by momentum, it can also be one of the most rewarding aspects of the company.

Pros

Founders are still involved and will help on top accounts; competitive compensation; access to the tools one needs; no apparent shortage of money; good breakfast

Cons

Silent layoffs; lack of trust by leadership; senior management is poor at defining and communicating expectations; the fast pace of hiring leads to confusion and ever evolving priorities; tiger teams start haphazardly and end quickly creating uncertainty across the company; a once strong team-first culture has weakened as the company collaborates less and become more corporate; benefits have been reduced; poor professional development; the ferocious pace negatively slows enablement; c-level strategy changes often because ICP changes regularly; employees no longer are a top priority as investor interests have taken center stage; an old company value of 'We go further together' was never replaced with anything about working as a team which is another sign of the diminishing culture
