Pros

They don't discriminate on age in regards to pay - all employees are paid the same minimum pay regardless if you are under 18 or over 25 years

Cons

- changing promotions pretty much every day - there's no communication from head office to stores in regards to marketing or store windows, ive had to change marketing around in the store 3 times in a day due to head office continuously changing their minds - managers expect employees to have no life besides gap; dont you dare turn down a shift because you are busy, youll never get offered shifts ever again and will be penalised for it - visual merchandising is SO stressful, so much extra pressure than a sales associate with no extra pay. You have to stay (sometimes unpaid) every week in order to get your jobs finished. You cannot just leave when your scheduled shift is over, you must stay until tasks are completed, due to no staff this makes it very hard to complete tasks quickly - never enough staff. District managers are always on the managers backs to cut hours continuously, leaving the staff stretched very thin and expected to do the job of 3 employees at one time - managers just SIT OUT THE BACK all day "checking emails" and then moan when important tasks aren't completed - Gap made it very difficult for me when I left, their noses were put out of joint when I left so they did not pay me for a weeks work, it took me 6 weeks to fight with continuous emails to HR and phone calls to managers to finally get paid what was rightfully owed to me

Pros

Forged some very good friendships - all walks of life Amazing charity events put on for the community Great discounts and promotions for staff (50%) and public everyday

Cons

Focus of business is heavily placed upon visuals rather than essential sales, training, delivering customer service or security compliances. In the London area very short staffed, often only two people on closes mainly senior sales leaving them in vulnerable situations.. The products always on yo yo discounts up and down providing everything cheap only after the product arrives. Execution of plans never follow through -managers don't motivate or delegate staff..no incentive for sales team only visuals. Every day numerous promos confusing customers. marketing is misleading in turn forming arguments with customers as never made clear. Terrible treatment of staff ..Very stressful as often they do about ten things all the same time that makes you often exhausted ,tired every day. Unable to handle legal issues due to no competency or care.
