Toxic company

Pros

Salary is decent (except for intern roles)

Cons

I was concerned by the company culture around overtime. In my experience, there was strong pressure from team leaders and management to work overtime despite overtime not being paid. There is also significant peer pressure to work overtime regularly, with employees made to feel that staying late is expected rather than optional. In my experience, employees are also regularly contacted late in the night, with an expectation that they will respond immediately. In addition, staff are required to complete a weekly reports every weekend, and specifically has to be submitted between Saturday and Sunday. Overall, there is effectively no work–life balance at this company. There is a noticeable divide between Chinese employees and Western employees. In my experience, Chinese employees are often expected to tolerate extremely long hours, harsh treatment, and a toxic management style. Western employees, meanwhile, are frequently excluded from the centre of the business because many important discussions and work chats take place in Chinese, and some team leaders have limited English proficiency. This creates a workplace where information and opportunities are not shared equally. Another serious issue is the company's hiring practices. On multiple occasions, candidates were given written job offers after their probation and made major life commitments based on them, such as renewing rental agreements, only for those offers to be withdrawn later due to “headcount changes” or “company restructuring.” This behaviour has harmed multiple employee's lives, and may not comply with UK employment law.

Cons

I worked at this company for a short period and unfortunately had a very negative experience. I want to share my perspective so others know what to expect. During my time there, communication was extremely challenging because higher bosses, did not speak English, which made instructions unclear and often relied on gestures rather than proper training. I also feel that health and safety standards could be improved; I did not receive thorough training, and some practices made me uncomfortable from a safety standpoint. The shifts were long—typically 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.—and we were expected to stand for the entire shift with no opportunity to sit down, even during slower periods. The work itself was very different from what was described in the job listing. Many nights involved cleaning tasks until around midnight, which I had not been told about when I applied. I also witnessed a supervisor being dismissed suddenly without a clear explanation, which created a lot of uncertainty among staff. In general, I felt that employees were not valued or treated with the respect and transparency expected in a workplace. Based on my experience, I personally would not recommend working here. In my opinion, other companies such as Amazon, Royal Mail, or John Lewis have clearer communication, better management, and stronger health and safety standards.
