Pros

I am a tenured 'Racker' who grew with the company from when it was just 600 or so employees. The culture, the management, the MD really valued and cherished the company they were building. Over the years there has been many transitions and changes, all bumpy rides but like many companies they overcame the challenges and come out the other side. Pros - They are paying very well - competitive salaries and sign on bonus's for some roles. - Rackspace has a fantastic product portfolio and service offering, we should be very appealing to customers based on what we can offer and support. - Do we have the capability to actually support the customers?? - Answer unknown.

Cons

I never thought I would be writing on the con's side of a glassdoor review, but having watched Rackspace grow and build amazing things over the past decade, to now watch it come crumbling down I feel an honest review is needed. Since the new leadership came in to play in 2020, the culture has been ripped out of the company, removing the onsite gym, the discount to the external gym, free breakfast all to make cost savings to make the company look more profitable. Credible, tenured Rackers have left without management putting up a fight to keep them because they have people within their IBM network to replace them. Why are these people leaving? If I share to much information here my review will be taken down.. But let's just say how the management team are treated is inhumane. The pressure is extremely intense, you cannot challenge or share any constructive feedback with your leadership team or you will be completely shut down and embarassed in front of your peers. Flexibility- In a world where the majority of the country are working from home, the Rackspace leaders are still pushing for people to be in the office, despite communicating a WFH policy until the end of the year. - Confusing. -Sales comp plan - better than some competitors but not as lucrative as it once was.

Pros

- Some nice people (getting fewer) - No dress code - OK if you're just out of college but frustrating for seasoned professionals

Cons

- No real business strategy (it's usually reactive and tactical, changing every quarter, used to be all Open Stack, now all about reselling AWS...) - It's very cliquey with business done by relationship not accountability - Benefits are average - A lot of money wasted on "having fun" but wages don't keep up with the market ( having a slide doesn't make up for it) - A lot of senior management (and there's a lot of it) are out of their depth, relying on some good old boy networks. They take the word of a few big mouths on the floor without checking facts first or listening to the silent majority - They really haven't lived the core values for a long time with a lot of two faced back stabbing. Substance over flash, friends and family - give me a break! - Not enough processes as senior management rely on not being held accountable and measured by them, so don't introduce them - Not much promotion chances unless you're teaches pet - A lot of people seem to waiting for a takeover and then cash in their shares - Not much external talent hired as a lot of managers prefer to hire their friends instead of new blood - Every critical review on here seems to get a 5* straight after...

Pros

There will be unhappy people in every department you interact with that all feel Backspace is falling apart - so conversation is always on tap. Career opportunities do not exist.. The company is pretty much smoke and mirrors which the stock price is starting to reflect more and more.

Cons

Rackspace are riding off their success fumes when they were the only managed hosting provider once upon a time.. Customers have caught on and ask why every couple of months they need to add another piece of kit to their solution and it is terribly overpriced as there is not enough support staff to keep up with the number of tickets raised.. They clutch to straws and the business is run on HOPE from month to month.. Management have zero leadership and the blame game runs down the food chain because no one in any level of management has a clue (and never seem to be doing anything but having pointless meetings discussing the same thing they have 5 other times that week). You will also be expected to be a 'yes man' and keep your head in the sand at the best of times let alone the worst.. OR ELSE.. Don't let the values fool you this is a business whereby if you are an honest hard working person you will be isolated and used as a scapegoat because you try make it a better place to be. The same people who smile and say they are there to help will be the same people who will stab you in the back. HR don't respond to issues or have any resolutions when you go to them, so don't try that either. It is the most frustrating place to work and you will very quickly realise that it has a school yard mentality.. Bullies, clicks and whispers as you walk past anyone. Mangement will make examples of employees who leave Rackspace and return due to being miss-sold on a role (usually people who add zero value as it is) and say "look, look at so and so, see the grass is not greener, if you wan to leave, go but you will be back, just like them". This isn't on the first couple of days they are back.. It is on going.
