Pros

Initially the company makes you feel like there are endless possibilities and that you can make a name for yourself. However, after spending over 2 years at the company it is obvious that the graduate scheme did not deliver anything that it had promised in the job description.

Cons

There are a large number of cons for this scheme. Before you apply for it, this is not a real graduate scheme. There is no real structure. The reality is is that you will start the company as a pest control technician, killing mice, rats and cockroaches, and work at ground level for up to 2 years. Promotions do not exist at Rentokil. You have to apply for new jobs within the company to progress, and go through the entire interview process. The job description seems to imply that you will automatically gain a promotion to either a field biologist, surveyor or team leader within 12-18 months. Again, this is false as you have to compete against other graduates, technicians and external sources for these positions. If you live in London there is too much competition to go anywhere fast, however, a few of the graduates have made these positions. Others leave when they realise that it is going to be very difficult to achieve this. Along with this, I had issues with being paid correctly and for 2 months I was not even paid and had to chase it up. I know other people have had issues with being paid commission for sales properly. My experience of management at Rentokil was terrible. Line managers and team leaders have too much work and have no time for technicians. I would spend weeks with only small amounts of contact from management. Obviously they have no time for the development of each of their technicians either. Talking to other employees also made me realise how inherently bad the management is at all levels at Rentokil, and why retention levels are so bad. In summary, I would not recommend this graduate scheme, even if it is your last option. There are better jobs out there and unless you want to be treated poorly, paid badly and have no life at all due to the vast amounts of work as you progress, then do not apply for this scheme,

Rentokil Initial Response

Thank you for leaving us a review. I am naturally very disappointed that you feel this way about working for our business, and there are parts of your review that I would like to respond to directly. Firstly, we are constantly trying to balance the wider business environment with recognition of the hard work delivered by our colleagues. It was for this reason that senior members of our business agreed to a reduction in salary for a period last year, so that we could protect frontline salaries and job roles. As a business we seek to ensure our total pay which includes a basic salary and variable pay is as attractive as possible. Our packages also include industry-leading training as well as employee benefits such as RI Rewards. We have a policy of promoting from within and we have a robust grading system in place to ensure that colleagues have the opportunity to increase their salary as they re-grade and progress their career with us. Secondly, as a responsible employer I can assure you that we take the health, safety and wellbeing of our colleagues very seriously indeed and this includes them being able to maintain a good work/life balance. We do not intend or wish for you, or any of our colleagues, to have to work beyond the normal working day. Please can I request that you take this issue up directly with your line manager so we can address it; if you don't feel comfortable doing so then please contact HR. You may also like to know that we have 300+ managers across Rentokil Initial UK currently undertaking eight hours each of ‘Health, Wellbeing and Resilience’ training that is being delivered by external provider as part of our commitment to ensuring that concerns relating to both physical and mental health can be identified, and that we are able to positively engage with any colleague who is suffering from issues such as stress, anxiety and depression. If you have any further concerns or issues that you would like us to be aware of then please email feedback-uk@rentokil-initial.com Thank you again for sharing your views with us. Pros

Good place to network. Get contacts from all around the world. You will find many inspiring manager. Follow them and learn fom them. In fact, in any large company you will find good leaders.

Cons

Turmoil turmoil turmoil. This company goes fast up and down. People are getting sacked and 5 days later people are getting hired. Work-life balance depends on the role. Some are getting paid more for doing nothing, while others are working hard for less pay. Unfair environment.
