Pros

Students come with high hopes and staff on the ground floor enjoy helping them and doing their best for them

Cons

Study Group is a money-making machine. The hypocrisy of the cowboys claiming 'students first' is breath-taking. There are sharkish and questionable practices throughout the company and especially amongst senior managers and a culture of brushing under the carpet many scandalous goings-on. You don't have to be much of a moralist to feel disgust for Study Group and it is time the company was held to account. Staff can be bullied out of their jobs if they ask questions or challenge their centre managers. HR will not support or help staff or deal with grievances although they will pretend to be even-handed. Study Group is run by a few greedy people, a bunch of well-paid consultants and a handful of well-paid centre managers. Everyone else should do what they can to leave before the company has been completely squeezed by its American Private Equity owner and dumped on the next buyer. Think BHS. This has been the worst, most sickening company I ever worked for and I will never forget the time i spent at this horrible place.

Bullying and harassment are not tolerated at our Company. We have regulatory processes in place to address such behaviour and to tackle grievances. We always ensure that our managers and employees are fully aware of our Code of Conduct and grievance process. We hope that you used this procedure. Your honesty is appreciated.

Incompetent management & poor leadership

Pros

Friendly staff who work hard in a dull and bland corporate atmosphere

Cons

Personally, my manager was promoted beyond their means. Incompetent in both their ability to carry out the work required, as well as management skills. They also had an eccentric personality which spilled over to management style, which should have been picked up by more senior staff earlier. Generally, atmosphere was overly corporate and leadership didn’t ever seek to improve day to day work environment.

Pros

My colleagues were and amazing and diverse bunch.

Cons

- No chance of progression. - Management do not understand your role, so they are no source of inspiration and could never help when there was issues. - The company can only manage short term solutions so the same issues will repeat and repeat and become so tedious. - Massive gender pay gap in my team and heard this was similar in other departments. - It was assumed you would work 7 days a week and overtime on the weekdays to make up for the poor processes put in by management and hit the unachievable targets. - No regard for how their workers felt. - This company has a very very very high turnover of staff. My team of 6 alone in a period of 18 months had 10 people leave. Many cited the poor management, low pay and lack of training as their reasons for leaving. - Had to fight for commission payments promised to us. - Targets were not achievable. Our managers would tell us this daily and discuss it openly in front of us. They then tried to change our commission so we only got paid for hitting target and couldn't understand why we were so upset at the change. - A frustrating role. No matter how many ideas you put forward to try and improve the process you were not listened too. You were then pulled into long unnecessary meetings about why things didn't work, despite spending months trying to stop the issue. - If they promise you travel within your job role - it is a lie. - If you love working long hours with 0 chance of progression and repeating yourself then this role is for you. The staff acquisition team is very good at making the role sound fun and exciting, but believe me, it is very different when you are in the office.
