Pros

If your face fits, you are going to get a number of years in the business

Cons

Continuous restructuring means if you reach middle management you are in the kill zone, you are highly likely to be made redundant. Internal promotion uplift is capped, this means external recruitment for the same role is on a much better package. Promotion for going above and beyond is therefore not rewarded, its better to leave the business to a competitor and rejoin some time later, that way the cap no longer exists.

Pros

None, it is a world of stress and misery. May look like a big, well known, well resourced company to outsiders but believe me it isn't.

Cons

Cyclical mass redundancies ever 2-3 years to reduce costs and raise profits. Everyone is stressed, irritable, scared, over worked and under threat. Anyone who gets promoted into middle or senior management has a very low life expectancy. CRH who own Tarmac are utterly ruthless and only interested in short-medium term profits. Costs are cut to the bone. No loyalty, even to long term employees. They are hollowing out and destroying a historic British construction company.
