It's been 15 years since our colleague Wale joined B&Q, and he's still counting! He shared his thoughts on Yammer recently, and we couldn’t help but reshare. We’re lucky to have you in our orange family, Wale. “When I joined B&Q, I definitely had more hair on my head! As the years have gone by, I’ve acquired wisdom, met some great colleagues who I now call my friends, and I’ve never been more comfortable being me. I’m so thankful for my colleagues, for God, and for my family as they have supported me over the years. My hopes for the future of B&Q are that we will truly be an embodiment of equality and diversity. That our diverse range of colleagues who drive the business know that they can achieve anything with hard work and dedication. Here’s to many more years being part of my orange family.” Ready to start your journey with B&Q? We’re hiring now. Search roles and apply at bandqcareers.com
At B&Q, we’re creating a culture where everyone can feel like they belong. To show support for our LGBTQ community, we’re educating our colleagues on the importance of respecting each other’s identity and pronouns. To show allyship, all colleagues have the option of sharing their pronouns on their email signatures and name badges. #TogetherWeCan #PrideMonth
Week two of Pride Month, and we’re (quite literally) passing the mic over to our colleague Molly. At B&Q, Molly is part of our Employer Brand team, and is the brains behind our social media recruitment campaigns. Outside of work however, she’s a weekend presenter for the World’s biggest LGBTQ+ radio station, Gaydio! 🎙️🌈 “My job at B&Q and my presenting job on Gaydio are not as different from each other as you might think! Both roles allow me to be authentically myself without judgement or discrimination and talking openly about my experiences as an LGBTQ+ woman is encouraged. I’m so lucky to be supported by my colleagues who are always curious and extremely supportive about my radio work, and I’ll always be sure to squeeze in a few of their favourite songs when I know they’re listening!”
It's the start of Pride Month! 🌈 At B&Q, we’re working hard to create a culture where everyone feels they belong. Over the past year, we’ve worked with Green Park, an independent consultancy firm that specialises in Diversity, Inclusion, and Culture, to train 500 B&Q leaders on inclusive leadership, including LGBTQ+ inclusion. We’ve also added diversity and inclusion modules to our e-learning platform, Mylo, and we use weekly ‘Wellness Wednesday’ updates on our intranet to cover a wide range of D&I topics, which includes amplifying the voices of our LGBTQ+ colleagues. This ensures all colleagues have access to diversity and inclusion training and know where to find help should they need support, too. We’re so grateful to all our colleagues for embracing inclusion development with enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication, making B&Q a better place to work and shop. Keep your eyes peeled, as we’ll be sharing more updates across this month! #TogetherWeCan

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. 🧡 To support the wellbeing of our colleagues across B&Q, our Colleague Experience team work on a range of resources that everyone can access when they need a little extra help. We spoke with our Wellness & Inclusion Partner Deb to find out more about what’s on offer: “Supporting our colleagues to care for themselves and each other is a vital part of everyday life at B&Q. Over the past few years, we’ve introduced support tools such as our partnership with the RetailTRUST, regular Wellness Wednesday articles to inform colleagues about a variety of wellness topics, Wellness rooms in stores, online learning sessions about mental health awareness, stress management, building resilience and more. We’ve plenty more projects in flight to support the mental health and wellbeing of our B&Q family, so 2021 will be busy!”
A moment of fame for our colleague Joshua as he featured in a local newspaper, telling his story of joining us in-store after completing his college’s Outreach programme. In the article, Joshua’s dad commented: “It’s a great opportunity for him. Joshua has autism so something like this is a really big achievement and we are so proud of him.” We also spoke to Andy, Joshua's store manager, who said: "Joshua’s first few shifts have been really good, he has fully embraced everything he has been shown and is an extremely positive person. It’s been great to see him engaging with his colleagues and that he seems to be getting so much out of his role." You can read the full article below. We can’t wait to see where your journey with B&Q will take you, Joshua! #TogetherWeCan 🌟
