Meet Andy Floyd, one of our dedicated emergency engineers. Outside of his crucial work, Andy commits his time to an extraordinary cause — keeping nearly 350 war graves immaculate. As a volunteer for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, he’s dedicated to honouring the memories of the 300,000 soldiers, sailors, and airmen from the World Wars who rest in the UK. 👏 A former Royal Engineer, Andy has taken the lead in maintaining 302 graves in Warrington, 11 in Padgate, and 30 in Knutsford. At Cadent, we believe in giving back, and every employee receives two days’ extra leave for volunteering. Andy uses this time to ensure these heroes are remembered and respected. 🎖 “We should always honour them and keep their memory alive. I can think of no better way to use the two days volunteering that Cadent gives me,” says Andy. 🌟 We’re proud to share Andy's story during #VolunteersWeek (3rd to 9th June). With the countdown to Christmas well underway, there will be plenty of feel-good television to watch in the coming weeks, but there is only one programme that is must-see TV! 🎄 A special DIY SOS was recently filmed in Harlow, Essex, and several of our dedicated engineers gave up their time to ensure that gas installations were all completed safely. The team also shared gas safety messages and provided information about the Priority Services Register. 🛠️ 📺 The programme, hosted by Nick Knowles and featuring cast members from Albert Square, descended on Harlow to help transform a community project that brings people together and improves mental health. 🌟 The Eastenders cast members donned their hard hats and joined an army of volunteers, including the team from Cadent, to create a new building for Butterfly Effect Well-Being, enabling the project to offer its services to more people in need. 🧡 Click to read more
One could be forgiven for thinking that a visit from Cadent engineers would often be met with raised eyebrows or the worry of traffic disruption, but when the team rolled into Sharnbrook on Tuesday 17 October, it was for a very different reason. Major upgrade works have been taking place in the Bedfordshire village over the past two years, but these were all wrapped up in the summer with safe and reliable pipes being reinforced in the area ensuring many more years of usage. However, Cadent has been very aware that they have become a regular sight in the village and wanted to give something more positive back to the residents rather than traffic lights and holes. We are delighted to announce that Cadent has been recognised by the UK Government for supporting the Armed Forces community, as we were confirmed as one of this year’s Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award holders. The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme was launched in 2013 and Cadent has been a strong advocate for the scheme picking up the Bronze and Silver Awards in recent years. Being awarded the Gold Award is the true pinnacle for the business, but it does not mean that we will be resting on our laurels as we continue to support Armed Forces members and their families. "The Cadent Military Community was only created in 2018 but we had a very clear goal of achieving the Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award and I think it is fair to say that we may be a little ahead of schedule. That's not a bad thing though, it shows that Cadent is providing the right support to the armed forces community, as well as our continued commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and our Veteran, Reservist, Cadet and forces family community. "The Military Community at Cadent is just one of the fantastic streams within the business that helps to improve our diversity, equality and inclusion. Our executive team and everyone working here has shown leadership and commitment to the Forces Community and we thank Cadent for all of their support. The Armed Forces Covenant represents a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated fairly.
Cadent awarded The Menopause Friendly Accreditation “We are delighted to be the first gas distribution company to become accredited as menopause friendly,” says Lucy Stuart, Head of Risk & Assurance and Menopause lead at Cadent. “As a sector that is generally male-dominated, it is important for Cadent to have equity in our workplace. By becoming Menopause Friendly, we are giving our menopausal and perimenopausal colleagues the chance to be their most comfortable and confident selves at work. It is a huge opportunity to support all colleagues, including those who aren’t going through, or never will go through, menopause, to become comfortable talking about it. By doing so, they will gain the confidence to support the people around them who are experiencing menopause.” To read the full article click the link below.
