Last month, our Mercado team delivered 52 rolls of donated carpet to the charity Noah’s Ark. These carpets will soon help transform the homes of individuals and families in need, replacing cold, bare floors with warmth and comfort. The partnership was established in 2023 by our Transformation Director, John Clark (second from the right), and since then, Mercado has provided flooring for over 400 homes. We're proud to continue this impactful collaboration into another year of making a real difference.
This Stress Awareness Month, we’re placing a spotlight on mental well-being and the importance of open, supportive conversations in the workplace. We recently spoke with Rebecca Taylor, our Operations Coordinator and Mental Health Champion, about how we can all contribute to a workplace culture where people feel safe, heard, and respected. Here are Rebecca’s top three tips for fostering honest and healthy conversations at work: • Check in, don’t check out - A simple “How are you really doing?” can mean everything. • Encourage breaks without guilt - Everyone needs time to pause and reset. • Promote balanced and achievable expectations - Burnout isn’t a badge of honour. Let’s support healthy workloads. A big thank you to Rebecca for being such a strong advocate for mental well-being in the workplace.
Fleet upgrade ⬆️ As part of our customer-first strategy, we announced a major investment in our vehicle fleet to make it safer, easier and more efficient to deliver to our valued customers. This year alone, we are replacing nearly half of our fleet - 123 vehicles. This fleet upgrade is an important step in ensuring our customers get what they need when they need it, with even greater reliability and convenience.

Congratulations to the first Headlam Trainee Fitters who have completed their training programme and are ready for their first flooring jobs. This initiative has been an incredibly successful programme for the young fitters, the industry, the colleagues taking them on and, of course, us. Thank you to our training suppliers ARDEX UK , Polyflor Ltd , F. Ball and Co. Ltd., Mapei (UK) Ltd, Unilin , Tarkett and UZIN UK - who have given the fitters the best training and kick-started their flooring careers. Thank you also to John Clark, our Transformation Director, who spearheaded this initiative. We’re committed to the future of the flooring industry and are looking forward to our second programme later this year.
We are proud to champion apprenticeships as a vital way to build a skilled, engaged, and future-ready team. For many, apprenticeships provide a pathway to a rewarding career, offering hands-on training, nationally recognised qualifications, and opportunities for those who might not have considered this route. Our apprenticeship programme creates growth opportunities, as shown in Sophie Edmunds and Camilla Suggett's journey below... 🙎🏼♀️ Sophie Edmunds, Trade Counter Manager, Mercado Epsom. Sophie started her career as a Trade Counter Assistant and joined our Customer Service Specialist programme to expand her skillset. Now promoted to Trade Counter Manager, Sophie says the apprenticeship gave her invaluable skills and confidence to support customers and colleagues. 🙎🏼♀️ Camilla Suggett, Customer Service Manager, Mercado Thatcham. Enrolling in the Operational Departmental Management programme, Camilla developed project management and leadership skills while working with senior leaders on high-impact projects. Camilla describes the apprenticeship as a life-changing opportunity that opened doors she hadn’t considered before.
