In Parliament this June, a Westminster Hall debate saw cross-party recognition of the vital role that the national gas network continues to play in securing Britain's energy, powering industry and enabling a cleaner energy future. We also welcomed the UK Government’s Spring Spending Review, which included a £200 million commitment to carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, supporting projects like the Acorn Project in Scotland. What a month June has been - from Ofgem’s funding announcement for the East Coast Hydrogen programme to the release of our latest Gas Winter Review, and the unveiling of the government’s new industrial and infrastructure strategies – it’s been a month full of momentum and progress.
While summer brings fun for many, it can also present real challenges – so the National Gas team has been proud to partner with Barnardo’s again to help families and children stay safe in the sun. Our team came together to donate a wide range of essentials, including: 210 bottles of sun cream, 60 buckets and spades, plus swimwear, clothing, footwear, toys, books, prams, and cots.
Women in Utilities - winner!
We're hiring for a host of senior level roles across Scotland & North, the East region and the West region of Great Britain - to secure Britain’s energy. Gas is an essential part of a secure energy supply in Britain, and will continue to play a vital role for decades to come. More than ever, we need the security that gas brings to keep the lights on, businesses running, and to protect jobs. National Gas provides that security. We are responsible for transporting gas to power stations, major industries, storage facilities, more than 500,000 businesses, and 23 million homes through nearly 5,000 miles of pipes across Britain. National Gas is also proud to lead the way in transforming the energy network for a net zero future. Gas provides the energy security to support renewable electricity generation, and we are developing our infrastructure to transport hydrogen and carbon dioxide across the country. Reflecting on this upcoming Armed Forces Day, we hear from Tom Mills MSyI M.ISRM, our Business Information Security Officer, as he shares his experience in the Army and what this day means to him. "For me, Armed Forces Day is a chance to remember my time in service and the positive impacts it has had on my life. It definitely helped shape who I am today. Time in the service provides a great and often safe space to make mistakes so you can learn and develop yourself, to push boundaries in a way not normally available to non-military personnel, and pursue personal and professional development every year. It honed my confidence to be able to read an audience and adopt a diplomatic persona when needed, whilst remaining professional in all other instances. I’ve learnt my limits and my strengths, and I know how best to utilise my skill set and knowledge within those ranges. It's also a day to acknowledge my family who supported me through tough times and my transition from military life. I'm proud that National Gas values the important role our Armed Forces play in society and the contributions veterans bring to every walk of life." Thank you to Tom for sharing his story with us. Among our National Gas workforce there are many others like Tom, and we take pride in supporting them.
