At QinetiQ, we are committed to creating safe and secure environments where we can all thrive. Our aim first and foremost is to develop a culture that fosters our wellbeing; where we all behave in a way that supports each other to feel our best. At Portsdown Technology Park, a team of colleagues have created a wellbeing garden, volunteering their efforts at lunchtime and after work. It provides a quiet area to appreciate a beautiful view of the downs and the fauna and flora, as well as encouraging the local wildlife. Thought leaders in innovation and talent from QinetiQ, Dstl, Thales & UK Research and Innovation recently discussed the importance of science and technology skills for fuelling the future of defence, in a thought-provoking webinar earlier this month. The future of defence cannot be fuelled without the skills of personnel. It is clear that we need a stronger understanding of the connection between S&T skills and the opportunities they present to undertake roles that impact the future of modern society. Our commitment to the development of our people is an important part of life at QinetiQ, with our Global Fellowship Programme being a notable part of our employee offering. In November 2022, colleagues from across the globe joined us for our Fellows & Chiefs Global Community Seminar. During their time together, they were able to have rich discussions and make valuable connections. One of the most significant was between our global Fellows & Chiefs with colleagues in the early to middle stages of their careers, otherwise known as our ‘Futures’. Leah is the driving force behind the Fellows & Futures initiative, designed to encourage collaboration between QinetiQ colleagues with various levels of experience. Committed to being a responsible and sustainable business, our people make a positive difference to the communities where we live and work. One area where we can choose to focus our volunteering efforts is through our Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM) outreach programme – designed to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Matthew is a colleague who has been celebrated for the work he has done in his own time, developing new activities to be used for STEM engagement. These easily understandable activities explained the concepts of radar and optical communication to primary school-age children and above. An important part of our employee offering is learning and development, ensuring we have the opportunity to grow our career and realise our potential. This year we have made our Personal Development Fund available globally, which ensures we all have more choice about how we drive our own career development. We’re proud to have supported the A400 programme as we continue to work with our RAF partners to accelerate the introduction of additional capabilities for the Atlas A-400M. Carrying out re-supply missions in support of the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), this is the first time the Atlas A-400M has been used to conduct this annual defence mission. Delivering trials back in 2018 as part of ATEC, we’re pleased to see these long-range capabilities come to fruition in 2023.
