Next week we're introducing a number of improvements to our bus services in Coventry. Buses are vital lifelines for many customers and communities and we continually review our network to ensure weโre providing the best possible service for residents and visitors right across the city. Congratulations to our drivers, Lee Grantham, Christopher Godridge and Carl Griffin, who are through to the UK Bus Driver of the Year competition this September ๐ ๐ ๐ Next month they'll go up against other UK bus operators' best drivers when they take part in the national final in Blackpool and we're wishing all three of them the best of luck! ๐ ๐ผ ๐ญ Sarah East, our Operations Director, said: โAs always, our Bus Driver of the Year competition proved popular again this year with nearly 100 applications from drivers who wanted to take part in local depot heats, ahead of our local final with 18 participants. โOur driver development teamโs unwavering commitment and support for our drivers and these events is what makes this possible year after year, and weโre all really proud of everybody that took part, demonstrating their skills during a tough competition. โWe wish all three of our UK Bus Driver of the Year finalists the best of luck for September and will be keeping everything crossed that they bring some silverware back to the West Midlands once again.โ
We're really proud of Hasan Khan, our Electrical Apprentice, who was named Best Electric Driveline Apprentice at the IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers) Skills Challenge Awards last week ๐ Hasan secured the top spot after demonstrating his skills in the IRTE Skills Challenge competition in June, among 60 qualified and apprentice engineers from across the bus and coach industry Hasan said: "I'm very honoured to receive this award and has shown that my hard work has been acknowledged and appreciated. To compete against all of my peers and come out on top shows I am heading in the right direction in my career. I plan to compete again next year and take part in the mechanical challenge, so I am hoping to win an award on both sides - thatโs my ambition for the coming year.โ Craig Perkins, our Engineering Apprenticeship Manager, said: โI'm really pleased with how well Hasan has done in the competition this year, and I also want to say a huge well done to Mร tรจ and Tyler, two of our other apprentices who competed. Hasan's award shows his hard work has been recognised and will set him up for a great career in engineering. Weโre excited to introduce a special new arrival at Birmingham Coach Station โ meet Blakey the Bull. ๐ This year weโre proud to be supporting Bulls in the City, a huge charity art project happening in Birmingham city centre this summer - raising awareness and vital funds for Birmingham Hospice. Dressed from hoof to horn in the historic blue and cream bus livery, Blakey pays tribute to Birminghamโs public transport heritage โ complete with a few cheeky bulls, cows and calves along for the ride. ๐ฎ Blakey will take residency in Birmingham Coach Station until 14th September. We, alongside our partners Birmingham City FC, have been shortlisted for the 2025 National Transport Awards in the ๐๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐น๐น๐ถ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ / ๐๐ผ๐น๐น๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ category! ๐ค Fans driving to games at the Blues ground was causing major congestion on matchdays, among other issues. ๐ก We worked with BCFC to launch a free (to match ticket holders) matchday shuttle bus service between the city centre and the stadium, providing fans with a frequent, convenient alternative for getting to and from home games. Thanks to the dedication of our teams and on the ground support, the joint operation resulted in nearly 32,000 supporters using the shuttle service from September to April! โ maximising convenience for supporters โ increasing modal shift from private car to public transport โ an excellent response from fans, including "this is elite for disabled users like me - loving it!" โ fully addressing all safety considerations Transport Times | News & Analysis | Events
