It’s National Inclusion Week! At United Utilities diversity and inclusion is very important to us, we want where we work to be a place where our employees feel they can bring their whole self and we were delighted to be one of the top 1 percent of 15,000 companies across Europe in the Financial Times’ Statista Survey for Diversity and Inclusion Leadership. This week our employees will be involved in lots of activities to celebrate – from virtual coffee mornings, hearing and signing classes, to yoga sessions and guest speakers. We’d like to say a big thank you to all our employees who will be taking part!
We’d like to say a huge warm welcome to our new 2021 apprentices and graduates! Last week we introduced 70 new apprentices and graduates into their new roles including Process Controllers, Graduate Engineers, Graduate Future Leaders, Data Analysts and many more! They joined us across three of our sites for their first day, ready to start their career with us. Good luck to you all and we wish you all the success!
Our power consumption has reduced by 84% in a trial of innovative new technology at one of our biggest bioresources plants at Davyhulme in Manchester. The trial, which was funded by Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator and supported by The Carbon Trust, involved replacing centrifuges with a new system called Volute. Volute revolves just twice a minute, compared to traditional centrifuges which can reach speeds of up to 3,500 revolutions per minute, and is reducing carbon emissions from our bioresources sites.
This weekend we were lucky enough to meet some of our customers in the North West. We were proud to be the principal sponsors of Warrington Disability Day for the 30th anniversary event and we were also proud to partner Keswick Mountain Festival. Thanks to our support, the festival featured an accessibility zone for the first time - a place to encourage disabled visitors to take part in sport. At both of these events it was great to see customers sharing water saving pledges and signing up to our Priority Services scheme – a free service offered to customers who need additional support.
