In response to the humanitarian crises in Haiti and Afghanistan, The LEGO Foundation and KIRKBI A/S – owners of the LEGO Group – will donate 100M DKK ($15.7M USD) to support children in both countries with help from UNICEF, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and Education Cannot Wait (ECW).

Today we're celebrating our 89th birthday! 🎂🎉 Here’s a fun fact: When sales of his best-selling wooden yoyos suddenly dropped in the 1930s, LEGO Group founder Ole Kirk Kristiansen couldn´t afford to throw out the large number of unsold yoyos he had in stock. Instead, he showed a great deal of creativity and imagination – two of our company values – by cutting the yoyos in half and using them as wheels for other products. #LEGOHistory
