Bullying Culture

Pros

Before the appointment of the COO I would have said it's supportive structure and valuing of staff. It's lack of a blame culture and willingness to acknowledge when things went wrong and work with managers to put right. How times have changed

Cons

Culture is now one of bullying. Senior staff breaking down at meetings because they can't cope with constant on call even when on annual leave. Any one who objects gets told there will be consequences. Dozens of General Managers have left over past few months and in past 4 weeks 5 Regional Directors have gone. General Managers working 7 days a weeks. This is not valuing or supporting staff. My advice is to avoid this company. You will be expected to put your home life on hold and be at the end of the phone 24/7. Focus on marketing and not quality of care.

RGN

Pros

Incredibly hard working carers and some great RGN colleagues but overall, DIRE, I have read all the latest reviews and quite frankly it's like they are talking about a different company.

Cons

It's not the fact that there is no sick pay. That the hours are long. It's that the priorities are not the residents who are paying up to £1400 a week. The words say they are, but the actions say otherwise. Everything is for show, 5 star dining room while residents are getting pressure ulcers

Pros

They do offer a good wage for General Managers

Cons

Please do not get lured in by the money or your ego. The company is run by people who actively encourage bullying to the General Managers. The conference calls are awful and you will not be supported in any way. It’s not just the South Diversion that awful they are all the same. All the directors are bullies and their expectations are unrealistic. There is nothing but fear and intimidation in this company. They have been desperately trying to get their figures up to please the new buyers and get their fat bonuses and in the process killed all their staff. The endless abuse especially from your RD really is not worth it, they are no longer the best company to work for. There good name has been distroyed by these sick individuals in power. The good name of Barchester went out the window when the old COO left. What you have now is a circus and people in senior positions who are abusive and cruel. They scape goat their managers and take no responbility. This is all to look good, it’s an illusion. Please don’t be a fool and work anywhere else.

Barchester Healthcare Response

Providing the highest levels of care and support is what our success has been built on, so it’s incredibly disappointing to hear that you felt this was lacking when you worked here. We never want our people to feel uncomfortable or isolated, and we invest heavily in training for our managers. Whilst we don’t think your experience is common at Barchester, if it’s happening anywhere, it is unacceptable. We’d really appreciate it if you could please give us more details by emailing us, in confidence, at onlinefeedback@barchester.com
