Bullying Culture - Regional Barchester Healthcare Employee Review

Pros

Before the appointment of the COO I would have said it's supportive structure and valuing of staff. It's lack of a blame culture and willingness to acknowledge when things went wrong and work with managers to put right. How times have changed

Cons

Culture is now one of bullying. Senior staff breaking down at meetings because they can't cope with constant on call even when on annual leave. Any one who objects gets told there will be consequences. Dozens of General Managers have left over past few months and in past 4 weeks 5 Regional Directors have gone. General Managers working 7 days a weeks. This is not valuing or supporting staff. My advice is to avoid this company. You will be expected to put your home life on hold and be at the end of the phone 24/7. Focus on marketing and not quality of care.

Pros

I struggle to find anything positive to say anymore. Barchester used to employ superb people but they have all had enough and are leaving in droves. They used to have a brilliant reputation, the management structure was flat, everyone felt that they were part of something special. Not any more. It's all about profit now. Nothing else seems to matter to the current CEO.

Cons

Barchester used to make the 25 Best Big Companies list every year. But they won't get it again. Staff no longer feel valued. Promises are made to new staff but it's all a con. Attrition rates are shocking. The Business School no longer exists and staff development is a joke as the company has slashed its L&D budget yet Barchester continues to claim that their career training is the best in the business. The current board and senior managers have established a hierarchical dictatorship akin to a 1980's corporation which seeks to treat its middle managers like mushrooms.
