Pros

Our wage is going up to £9.50... in October... after they've laid off all of our Carphone Warehouse employees and our Airport store colleagues, after they were the ones who helped during the pandemic in the contact centre, when they could've taken the easy route of furlough :) Don't have to buy your own uniform, but sorry girls we dont get a top button because we gotta "use our sexuality" to get sales! :) The bathroom is a good place to cry, nice vibes Free tea and coffee... if you manage to get a break that is ~Flexible working hours~ oh.. for them not you! :) They care about their colleagues!! Thats why they campaigned for us to stay open during the pandemic so we could serve customers their oh so essential hdmi cables and dvd players! They really do care :) They really care about upholding company standards, so thoughtful! they make it so easy to feel like part of the team by stripping away every ounce of your personality! This company truly believes in putting our customers first, thats why they make it a free service to let them scream and belittle us over their kettle breaking :) which they dont have a receipt for... which they bought over 5 years ago... from argos. :) Our company wants us to excel in our job! Thats why they make us such easily obtainable targets, that no customers ever wants.... because they stripped away everything that actually made it good to begin with... Lets not forget our bonus scheme of a whopping 0.2%, oh wait... you applied for a support colleague role? Hahaha.. nevermind then... Family friendly! Thats why when my relative was dying, they made it so easy to be able to see him by putting me in every evening shift and every weekend! How nice of them! Let's not even mention allowing us to work boxing day and christmas eve so we don't have to have a run in with the inlaws... haha soooo nice...

Cons

Dude, need I say more? Look, it's amazing as a stepping stone to put food on the table and roof over your head but please don't fall in to the trap! You are worth so much more than this damn company and it will suck every ounce of joy you have. I cannot believe it took a global pandemic for me to realise how much anxiety this damn job caused me. Adios Currys!

Pros

Floor staff can be lovely. Staff discount is very generous. Commission is decent enough.

Cons

KPI and sales targets are set far to high for anyone to realistically be expected to meet them. For instance, the company has raised its sales targets by 4% this month, despite it being January, traditionally the quietest month for retail. The Care and Repair Plan is a con, but management value the sales of it far more than sales of product. The minimum expectation is for each employee to sell one Plan for every four sales, which is impossible for them to do without agressive hard selling. The fact most customers are aware that the Plan is a con, and that people who have bought Plans in the past are often greatly irritated by Currys' customer service, makes them even harder to sell. Newer employees are quickly let go for failing to reach KPIs, whilst older employees remain despite failing those same targets.

Pros

You'll learn what a decent job is after leaving this place. At least the staff amongst you, and maybe one poor sod in management who's a little more human will share your pain and generally stay well together for each others sanity.

Cons

Poor pay, lies about pay rises, steal your holiday, and the typical bullying when not enough customers have come into the store, and you've not sold to thin air. You're expected to lie to a customer about virtually anything they apparently need. If a customer says no, it's your neck on the line. There isn't always the "perfect" way to pitch that could win even the most stubborn (or informed) customer. Yet management will expect totally unrealistic expectations. Half the time they resort to giving heavy discounts/tricks to make their store KPI look better. You're almost expected to discourage a customer to make their purchase, as everytime you don't attack with "Care plan" "Backup" "Anti-virus" "Cloud" "Installation" "Office" ETC you'd better just have them leave as selling the product does not matter, even if that's what the customer wants... It goes on, and there's teirs on some of these. If you nail all but one, you'll have a bad KPI, and you'll be slaughtered even if you do well, just because you lack "office packages" or whatever... 9/10 is unacceptable if it's consistant. Just relax and do half the job for each customer, you'll spread that KPI butter far easier, and look like a standard/naff staff with average KPI. Not "excellent here, here, here, but not here, you're making me go out of business"... Not like you're getting paid enough to care.
