Pros

Pay rates for CSA level colleagues is ok, better than NMW. Discount is also helpful. That's about it.

Cons

Pay rates for levels above Supervisor depend entirely on how much you creep around management, lazy management who creep are very well paid, those who get on with their job and don't bow down are poorly paid. Some of the long standing store managers are allowed to patronise staff and treat them like the're thick. There have been at least two rounds of redundancies recently, they have laid many loyal staff off and re-advertised their jobs with slightly amended job titles and much lower pay. Support staff in HO mainly affected, meaning poor support to stores and whimsical decisions. A lot of bullying goes in within stores, including by management. No one even attempts to reconcile even if it is reported. A lot of the values they say they work by are as and when it suits. They like to show off as being an employer of choice, probably measured by the annual colleague survey - the survey which any staff who are likely to tell the truth or say anything negative are unlikely to receive as they will run out or get lost, or possibly filled in on their behalf. Area managers don't even speak to colleagues on visits, no recognition for anything! Watch out for scheduled hours especially if you are full time, you'll be scheduled for 45 probably but only paid for 39. If you question, they'll say it's your fault for taking no breaks but a proper break is almost impossible in smaller stores, especially if you're one on one. Check your pay thoroughly, they'll get away with paying premium payments if they think you won't notice. Work/life balance is poor, schedules not done very far in advance and will often schedule you for an early after a late or a late before a day off and an early on returning day. Gone down hill considerably over the last 18 months. Best advice, don't work for Midcounties - it's really not what it seems.

Pros

It’s a very rewarding job watching the children grow and learn and become into their own person. Creating relationships with the families and bond with them

Cons

Don’t always get to finish on time due to lack of staff.
