Asda has announced it will more than double its electric grocery home shopping fleet, taking its fleet to 194 vehicles as the retailer continues to invest in reducing greenhouse gas emissions across its business. Rolling out this month, Asda will invest Β£1.3m into launching an additional 112 home delivery vans and charging points for its vans at stores across the UK. By September, 21 Asda stores across the UK will operate a fully electric home delivery van fleet. Across these 21 stores, the electric vehicles are expected to make over 1 million deliveries in the year to go. With a range of up to 130 miles, the electric vehicles will help to save up to 1700kg of CO2 emissions per year. Emma Newton, Senior Director β ecommerce last mile for Asda, said: βWeβre always looking at how we can better serve our customers and for new ways to reduce our carbon emissions as a business, so weβre delighted to be more than doubling our electric fleet of grocery home shopping vehicles.β Asda first rolled out electric delivery fleets at its stores in Gillingham Pier, Old Kent Road and Sheffield Chaucer in 2023. In 2024, Asda invested in two new Bio-LNG (liquefied natural gas) refuelling facilities, as the retailer continues to make progress towards reducing overall carbon emissions. With over 780 vehicles, Asda operates the largest fleet of LNG fuelled trucks in the UK, with this type of fuel a leading, lower carbon alternative to diesel.

A clean sweep this week as Asda picks up Store of the Week and the cheapest basket in The Grocer 33! π A big congratulations to Tracey Peddie and the team at our Sheerwater store in Woking, who topped The Grocer 33 for service. Alongside the win for service, weβve also just secured our 19th Grocer 33 price comparison win of the year, demonstrating how Rollback is delivering outstanding value to our customers!
