Over the past year, our distribution sites in Doncaster and Worksop stores have been working with local primary schools, building bug hotels out of salvaged materials, and raising awareness of the issues facing our environment. So far, the two sites have worked with nine local schools and have built 24 bug hotels!
Today we proudly join a coalition of 28 leading UK advertisers, broadcasters and creative agencies to launch the #UnstereotypeAlliance UK National Chapter. Convened by UN Women, the initiative will focus on encouraging diverse, inclusive and non-stereotypical representations of marginalised groups in advertising, initially focusing on the experiences of women of colour. Ingrained inequalities in the UK have been further amplified by the COVID-19 global pandemic, and movements such as #BlackLivesMatter have put a spotlight on the ongoing social and economic injustices. Together, we will champion the advertising industry to act as a force for good, depicting progressive portrayals of women and men and ensuring that diversity is a priority throughout the entire creative process. Follow Unstereotype Alliance to learn more.

Yesterday was International Women's Day and we're proud to announce that we've launched our B&Q Women’s Network! Sponsored at Board level by our Transformation Director, Catherine Burge, the network will support us on our journey to becoming a truly inclusive place to work and shop by advocating on behalf of our customers and colleagues who identify as female. This will help educate everyone across our business on issues impacting women, and encourage us to work together to make B&Q a good home for everyone.
Last Thursday, over 550 excited B&Q leaders headed to Wales for our annual leadership conference. The place was buzzing with excitement as colleagues connected with old friends, all eager to hear from the Board about our big plans for 2020. It was an evening of celebration, presentations and an engaging Q&A session. We also had a talk by Dr Chatterjee, who shared his expert advice on how we can all take small steps to relax, eat, sleep and move ourselves to a healthier life. We wrapped up the conference with a charity raffle, where colleagues raised nearly £10,000 for Shelter! The day was a huge success, colleagues left feeling energised, excited for the year ahead and, of course - proud to work for B&Q. 🧡
