We’re proud to support the 25th annual #womeninconstruction week, a time to recognise the many women building their career in the construction industry. To celebrate this week, we spoke to some of the inspirational women across our business to hear what they had to say about being role models and working in the industry. “I do love my job… that satisfaction, and keeping in your mindset, what are we trying to achieve here, a community, a sense of place.” “I absolutely love what I do, it’s the most enjoyable experience to watch the houses being built and then the final product, it’s just fantastic.” “All I want to do is try to be the best I can be to pave the way for the next generation of women in the industry.” Hear more below…
It is estimated that there are currently 3 million people living with cancer in the UK, rising to 3.5 million by 2025. Most of us are touched in some way by cancer, which is why this month across the company we have been raising awareness about cancer, including the importance of being aware of the signs and symptoms, getting checked, and where you can access support. As a business, supporting the wellbeing of our teams is a top priority, so in addition to this month’s focus, our colleagues have also had the opportunity to attend a number of webinars focused on all aspects of health and wellbeing. We’ve heard from some great speakers such as Olympian Lizzie Simmonds, Parkrun founder Paul Hinton, former Captain of England Rugby Sevens, James Rodwell and Peloton instructor and fitness powerhouse, Joslyn Thompson. #healthandwellbeing #ClearOnCancer #HelpUsHelpYou #MacmillanCancerSupport
Last week we came together to celebrate Race Equality Week. Here at Barratt we feel it's important to highlight and address barriers to race equality, and act as a catalyst for change. With the theme of this year being #It’sEveryonesBusiness, the week reminded us that there is still work to be done, from those who experience race inequality to allies alike, this is something we need to keep striving for. Take a look to find out more about race equality at Barratt and the events we held in honour of race equality ➡️ #RaceEqualityWeek #D&I #equality
To mark National Apprenticeship Week, we asked some of our current and former apprentices about their time with us, and how it has supported their personal and professional development. Our industry-leading apprenticeship schemes cover a range of roles and levels - from bricklayers and carpenters to commercial and technical roles - and our apprentices are encouraged and supported from day one. We tailor our programmes to meet individual needs and apprentices receive encouragement, support and guidance to help them develop and to build their construction career with us. #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #apprenticeships #development #housebuilding #NAW2023
This week we brought our ASPIRE graduate cohorts together for a development session exploring how to cultivate personal resilience, and how to act as a positive advocate for inclusion across the business. The graduates explored the importance of these topics to themselves and the wider company, being given the opportunity to share their own insights and experiences whilst undertaking practical activities to support their understanding of each area. Our ASPIRE graduate programme includes a range of development modules to support the ongoing success of our graduates, as well as offering exposure to each area of our business and the chance to take on real responsibility through structured projects. Applications are still open for this year’s programme commencing in September. For more information visit our careers website: #graduates #ASPIRE #D&I #healthandwellbeing
Last week we were excited to welcome our newest Higher and Degree Apprenticeship cohort to the business with an induction event held at Sheffield Hallam University. This event also marked the launch of our new Real Estate Degree Apprenticeship. During the day the cohort got the opportunity to learn more about our business and the university, how their programme is structured, and had an official welcome from our Group Customer and Change Director, Jeremy Hipkiss, Group Land & Planning Director, Philip Barnes and Head of Talent Management, Andy George. Our higher-tier apprenticeships are a great alternative to full-time university study, allowing individuals to explore their potential in the construction, quantity surveying, technical or real estate side of the industry. The programme combines real-world projects with part-time university study and professional development training, meaning successful applicants will earn qualifications that’ll come in useful throughout their entire career. Our ASPIRE programme gives our graduates a tailored development plan, designed to give a well-rounded insight into the housebuilding lifecycle with support from senior leaders. For Caroline Booth, the independence she was given during the ASPIRE programme is what made it so special. From learning influence and persuasion skills to the importance of personal reflection, there was a balance to grow independently and with the support of others. From projects to training modules, the ASPIRE programme has supported Caroline’s progression from an ASPIRE graduate to a Sustainability Coordinator in our Corporate Sustainability team. Applications are still open for our 2023 cohort. Click the link to find out more about our 2023 ASPIRE programme ⬇️ #barrattcareers #graduateprogramme
As we approach the end of a busy year and enter the winter period, we need to make sure that we continue to look after our health and wellbeing. At Barratt Developments, we take care of each other by making health and wellbeing a priority. We believe that all of our people should thrive in their work and personal lives and our health and wellbeing support provides the resources and tools for our employees to do just that. We share regular information on wellbeing and would encourage everyone to consider these top tips over the holiday period: ➡️ Look after your body - The shorter days and climate can put many of us off getting outside as much, but physical activity can have many positive benefits for our physical health and wellbeing. ➡️ Stay connected - Maintaining healthy relationships with people we trust is crucial for our mental wellbeing. ➡️ Self-care – During the winter months, it’s still important to take time to enjoy ourselves each day. Whether it’s focusing on your favourite hobby, relaxing, or connecting with others. #Healthandwellbeing #winter
