According to updated forecasts from 3 Reasons, Freely is expected to be in 10.5 million UK households by 2034. The figures imply that there is a growing readiness amongst UK audiences for internet‑delivered television via a carefully planned and managed transition. Channel 4 has today published its Annual Report for 2025, showcasing stable revenues, financial discipline and continued investment in British content in a challenging market. 2025 saw Channel 4’s distinctive slate of content cut through, driving reach, relevance and cultural impact across the UK – with milestones for shows including Virgin Island, Patience and Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping. Revenues topped £1 billion for a fifth consecutive year, with 62% of revenues – £640 million – reinvested into content. Digital advertising revenues grew by 13% to £346 million, accounting for 34% of the total. Together with non-advertising revenue, diversified revenues now make up 44% of the total.

We hosted a roundtable at Channel 4 focused on sharing best practice in supporting women’s health in the workplace. Dame Diana Johnson MP, Minister for Employment, and Mariella Frostrup, the Government’s newly appointed Women’s Employment Ambassador, co-chaired the discussion, exploring how businesses can improve and expand women’s health provisions at work. At Channel 4, one way we support staff wellness is our Menopause Policy – the first of its kind in the UK media industry when launched in 2019 by our 4Womxn staff network. It supports colleagues experiencing menopausal symptoms and provides clear guidance for managers. Yesterday at the Broadcast (MBI) Summit, Channel 4 announced the launch of a new proof-of-concept development fund to back big, original British unscripted formats. The fund will greenlight three to five ideas, offering £100,000 each to support substantial development – giving independent producers the space to properly test and refine ambitious new returnable formats, with the ambition of taking at least one project to full series. The fund will be overseen by Channel 4’s Head of Commissioning Development Art Sejdiu and Senior Commissioning Editor Vivienne Molokwu, as part of Channel 4’s ongoing commitment to investing early in bold ideas and supporting the UK’s independent production community.
Channel 4 today announced that Chief Content Officer Ian Katz will step down from his role this autumn, after almost nine years leading the broadcaster’s content strategy. The longest‑serving content chief in Channel 4’s history, Ian has led a period of significant creative and commercial success, playing a central role in the channel’s evolution from a linear broadcaster to a streamer and digital video pioneer.

This weekend Channel 4 celebrated its first broadcast of The CHANEL J12 Boat Race 🌊 Our debut as UK broadcaster of the historic rowing races had an overall reach of 3 million people, and a peak audience of 2m tuning in to see the climax of the Men’s race. Coverage of The Boat Race 2026 won its slot for both audience and share, including share of young viewers.
