With the easing of lockdown restrictions and colleagues considering their return to the workplace, businesses must adapt their premises to recover quickly, according to Mitie’s new guide - Bouncing Back: Building the future workplace.
Mitie has strengthened its twelve-year relationship with North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust with a new five-year contract to deliver facilities management and catering services for all of the Trust’s hospitals. The contract is worth £4.2 million a year and has the option to extend for up to two further years.
Mitie, one of the UK’s leading facilities, carbon management and professional services companies, has been named as a supplier on the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) agreement for COVID community testing sites. The appointment enhances Mitie’s position as a key supporter of testing services which are a critical part of the UK’s strategy to combat coronavirus.
Colleagues from Mitie’s cleaning team based at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 will be featured in an upcoming episode of the ITV documentary series, Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport. Airing on Wednesday 17 March at 8pm, the episode will mark Mitie’s first appearance on the show, which goes behind the scenes at Heathrow, Britain’s biggest and busiest international airport.
Mitie has expanded its partnership with Birmingham Airport with a new three-year contract to provide baggage screening and passenger assistance services. Mitie has been providing security services, such as access control, at the airport for eight years.
Mitie has launched a new air disinfection service, in partnership with Luxibel, using ultraviolet (UV) light to help eradicate bacteria, viruses, fungi and mould from indoor air. As part of the service, Mitie has exclusive UK rights to install Luxibel UVC purification lamps in a range of locations, including offices, airports, shopping centres and other work or public spaces, to help in providing cleaner air.
Mitie has become a member of the Aldersgate Group, an alliance of leaders from business, politics and civil society aimed at driving action for a sustainable economy. The membership, which is by invitation only, is part of Mitie’s commitment to fight climate change and share its experiences to help other organisations reach net zero.
Mitie is marking the first anniversary of Plan Zero – its commitment to reach net zero operational carbon emissions by 2025 – by setting a series of new sustainability pledges for 2021. These targets turbo charge the already challenging goals that were set and exceeded in 2020.
Mitie has launched its new Technical Services Apprenticeship Programme, aimed at attracting and developing the next generation of engineers and ensuring it has the talent and expertise to continue supporting its customers for years to come. As part of the programme, Mitie has pledged to hire 50 new apprentices in its Technical Services business, 16 of whom have already been recruited and started their training.
Mitie has launched the UK’s first zero emission gritting service for commercial use, using an electric gritter and sustainable white marine salt. The service uses the first zero emission gritter of its kind – a 100% electric vehicle (EV) with a battery-powered gritter attached. Both the EV itself and the vehicle-mounted gritter are charged each day at the Mitie Landscapes office in Nottingham, which is powered by REGO-backed renewable energy, meaning the service is truly zero emission.
