Congratulations to our colleagues who participated in the Standard Chartered Great City Race 2024 last night. By taking part, they helped raise funds for Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, a global initiative to tackle inequality and help promote greater economic inclusion for young people, and showed a great sense of team spirit throughout the event! Thank you to Londonmarathonevents for a well organised event and for ensuring energy levels stayed high, with some amusing MC-ing, vibrant music, and more. "I am definitely ‘in’ for next year, was a fab evening and a good run." - Julie Carter, Head of Group Learning and Development.
This week, we celebrated Learning at Work Week, a unique annual event that promotes lifelong learning at work. As the 2024 Learning at Work Week theme is ‘Learning power’, we explored how lifelong and continual learning gives us the power to change, grow and achieve our individual, team, and organisational goals. In honour of this, some of our employees shared their professional development stories and what they've learned along the way.
World Day for Cultural Diversity, Dialogue and Development, commonly known as Culture Day, is observed annually on 21 May. World Culture Day is an opportunity for us to appreciate and recognise the cultural diversity among us, and by learning about different cultures, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment. Each of our local offices has been assigned a different country to celebrate their culture by exploring culinary traditions and trying different foods.
In celebration of Deaf Awareness Week last week, the XPS Disability and Neurodiversity Network hosted a 1-hour virtual Deaf Awareness Seminar delivered by the RNID charity. It was a fast-paced, engaging session where we learned about the barriers faced by Deaf and hard of hearing communities. Participants also had the chance to learn a few British Sign Language signs and checking their hearing. Thank you to everyone who helped make this educational event such a success!
Only six million paper cups are recycled each year in the UK -- not even a day's worth of production. To celebrate Earth Day and help reduce single use waste in our offices, we are hosting an internal 'Design an XPS Mug' competition for XPS employees. The winning design will form a limited edition run of reusable coffee cups that we'll use in our offices. It's a special initiative that combines creativity with sustainability.
Today the XPS Women's network hosted our International Women's Day Party, in culmination of our week-long celebration of International Women's Day 2024. In honour of this week's unofficial theme, we've been celebrating women as unseen heroes, by learning more about women's contributions throughout history, female creators, women in film and more. Today's party was a fun-filled continuation of that through an hour of games, book reviews and more in celebration of XPS's Unseen Heroes. We'd like to thank all our colleagues who helped make this week such a success. You help us #InspireInclusion within XPS.
Thank you to our colleagues from our Leeds office who donated their time and energy to help renovate community centre rooms at the Gipton Together Henry Barran Centre over two days last month, on the 19th and 23rd of February.
Did you know that there are more than 6000 languages spoken around the world but it’s estimated that at least 40% of languages are endangered? Today we're celebrating International Mother Language Day and the rich cultural diversity within XPS by inviting our bilingual and multilingual employees to share how they say 'happy' in other languages. International Mother Language Day is observed annually to promote cultural linguistic diversity and show an understanding of the importance of the mother language, or 'mother tongue'.*
XPS has proudly celebrated National Apprentice Week this week. This year's theme is “Skills for Life”, so we've been celebrating how apprenticeships have helped XPS colleagues develop the skills for a rewarding career, and XPS to develop a workforce with future-ready skills. Visit out LinkedIn page to watch video from apprentice and XPS Recruitment Co-ordinator, Sion Thomas (see below). On behalf of the XPS Women's Network, we'd like to thank Helen Buckwell, of The Tall Wall, for delivering a bespoke coaching session to help our network members utilise their strengths and enhance their professional development. "What I enjoyed most about the session was being able to share my experiences and learning how others see and utilise their strengths" - Becky Purcell
