Pros

Since arriving at Wilderness Way, I have been supported every step, from my first where I was introduced to a colleague who I had been partnered up on a buddy system to now I support colleagues where I can. The organisation adopts a no blame culture and a nurturing culture for the employees. The pay is great, the benefits are great and we also get to take part in outdoor activities like canoeing, rock climbing and mountain biking to name only a few. The camaraderie is between staff is special and everyone is there to support and guide you and laugh along the way. The opportunity to progress through the organisation is also something that is welcomed,l just as much as a fresh face going the the company.

Cons

Having a drivers license is advantageous, but not everyone can drive.

We completely agree, the support teams show each other really is so special. We’re proud to offer activities through our Employee Adventure Club, giving everyone a chance to unwind and connect outside of work. The roles our people do are some of the most rewarding, but also the most challenging, so it’s important we let our hair down too! We appreciate your point about driving. We recognise it can be a barrier for some roles, especially with our homes being in rural locations that aren’t always easy to reach by public transport. We’re continuing to explore ways to improve accessibility, while keeping the beautiful settings that make our homes so unique. Thankyou for all the support you bring to the children and their teams.

Pros

Greàt recruitment process, they sold themselves really well. Robust interview process. Excellent publicity job.

Cons

I secured a job with this organisation, waited for my DBS to be returned and handed my notice in at my existing job at the recommendation of a Wilderness Way. I actually started my employment ( so far so good) but a few days before I was due on shift, they terminated the contract because they stated my career history didn't add up. I substantiated my career history fully and could evidence everything was legitimate however they ignored me, basically accussed me of lying and I was left with NO job NOTHING! That was bad enough but there was no apology and my wages were incomplete to add insult to injury... Basically the Registered Manager changed her mind about me, on a whim after the contract had been issued and they refused to honour it and created mind boggling excuses and made outrageous and slanderous suggestions about my honesty or perceived lack of it. Was this illegal , I think definately yes but could I afford legal help-NO ! Avoid this shoddy organisation at all costs!!

Pros

We listen to our employees and change things if something is going wrong for our teams. We have invested in 25 additional managers this year so every team and every child has a manager in place to support them in addition to their shift partner and team. 98% of our employees in a recent engagement survey are proud to work for us. 75% of our roles have been filled through internal promotion and internal talent development in the last 12 months. Our salary packages are in the upper quartile in our industry. We have become an internal diploma centre which means that there are no longer training cost commitments from our employees as we develop them to be qualified residential support workers. We believe our training and diploma package is market leading.

Cons

There will be amazing days, getting outdoors, seeing smiles on our children's faces, making a difference to them and showing them a different path to the one that has been chosen for them in their lives. It isn't easy though. Our children need support to make different choices and our employees role is to help them to see that things can be different.
