Huge congratulations to Adele and the Currys Blackpool team on their Retail Week Awards nomination for outstanding community impact! 🎉 Over the last year, the Blackpool team has made a massive difference where it matters most – by supporting their local community. They raised well over £7,000 for Trinity Hospice, Blackpool, with colleagues undertaking running challenges, bake offs, psychic nights and sports tournaments. And, if that wasn’t impressive enough, they also took on a nine-hour YMCA dance marathon! Alongside this, they’ve helped raise funds for the Digital Poverty Alliance, making a real difference in more ways than one. Nominations like this shine a light on the dedication, passion and teamwork that make our colleagues so special. Very well done to the Blackpool team, pictured with their certificate for Trinity Hospice!
We recently celebrated Careers Week at Currys, shining a spotlight on the Career Heroes who have made a difference in our journeys – those mentors, leaders, and colleagues who have supported and guided us along the way. It was all about recognising their impact, sharing stories, and encouraging each other to grow. Along with exciting career workshops and the launch of our brand-new Careers Unboxed podcast, we aim to always give our colleagues the tools, inspiration, and support to take charge of their careers.
Last week, colleagues at our Newark Repair Centre were given time to focus on their health and wellness at a Wellbeing Day! 🏋️♀️💆♂️💰 With expert support on hand, they had the chance to: 💙 Get health checks from Active4Today 💙 Access discounted gym memberships with The Gym Group 💙 Receive financial guidance from Barclays UK 💙 Enjoy sports massages to recharge! A huge shout-out to everyone who got involved. Prioritising wellbeing, whether through fitness, finances, or self-care, helps us feel and perform at our best, at work and at home. #WellbeingAtWork #TeamSupport #HealthyLiving
Amar’s been with the business for nearly 26 years, but one moment will always stay with him. 📺 An elderly customer came into the Castle Vale store, looking for some help with his TV, which wasn't working properly. His partner had recently passed, and the TV helped his home feel less silent. 🌙 “He was quite upset and emotional when he came in,” Amar recalls. “So after work, I went to his house and tuned it all in for him. He was over the moon.” ✨ A few days later, the man’s daughters returned to the store, touched by Amar’s kindness. For Amar, it’s moments like these that make his job so rewarding. "If your passion is helping people and you like technology, this is a brilliant place to work." A true example of going the extra mile. Cheers, Amar! 🟣 #LifeAtCurrys #RetailCareers #CustomersFirst
🌈 Our Pride at Currys network has been creating space for connection, support, and progress since launching in 2021. This LGBT+ History Month, we’re reflecting on the impact made by the network so far, and the work still to come. With the dedication of our Pride at Currys committee and the backing of colleagues across the business, we’re continuing to make Currys a place where everyone feels valued and included. 🏳️🌈 #LGBTHistoryMonth #PrideAtCurrys #InclusionMatters
General Managers know our customers inside out, and they know our colleagues just as well. Tahir is General Manager of our Castle Vale store and has been with Currys for nearly 28 years, moving up from a temporary warehouse colleague to his current role. He's spent much of his time learning and developing his leadership skills but his people-first approach is his superpower. "How you interact with and treat colleagues matters. One of the team recently said to me, ‘I never noticed you don’t have “Manager” on your badge’. But whether it's doing deliveries or serving customers, I wouldn’t ask my team to do anything I wouldn’t do myself." Tahir also says that being humble is an important quality for a manager. Which, conversely, is pretty inspiring!
Earlier this month, our Digital Team came together for their very own awards ceremony – recognising the incredible achievements, teamwork, and dedication that powered us through our busy Peak trading period. Chris, Digital and Omnichannel Director, shared: "Hearing why the team had nominated their colleagues was truly inspiring, and the sheer number of nominations for each award blew us away!" A huge shoutout to our expert host Monika, the Digital Leadership team – Laila, Julia, Andy, and Leanne – and to Komal for capturing the celebrations and our amazing team of supporters who planned and organised the event, and, to their surprise won our Team of Teams award! Congratulations to everyone who was nominated, shortlisted, or took home a trophy – your talent, commitment, and team spirit continue to drive our success. 🟣
80% of the materials in a mobile phone are recyclable, and each year, we safely recycle 65,000 tonnes of waste electronics. 📱🌍 On International Mobile Phone Recycling Day, we’re proud of the sustainable solutions our colleagues deliver every day: repairing, recycling, and reducing waste to protect our planet. When customers need support, our in-store teams are ready to help. If a device needs more care, our expert repair specialists in Newark step in, resolving issues quickly, often returning devices in under seven days. And when a device can’t be repaired, they make sure valuable parts are responsibly recycled, contributing to a more sustainable, circular economy. By helping customers extend the life of their tech and reducing environmental impact, our teams are driving real change.
2024 was a landmark year for our social media team, who have put their all into showing how bold, authentic storytelling can inspire and connect with audiences in fresh and exciting ways. 🎉 “We’ve completely changed Gen Z and Millennial perceptions of Currys as a brand, through genuinely engaging content – with colleagues always at the forefront of what we do.” Ryan Todd, Currys Senior Social Media and PR Manager The team constantly push each other to think bigger, create bolder, and deliver work that not only grabs attention but helps everyone enjoy amazing technology. Together, they’re leading the way in social innovation – and proving that a caring, supportive team culture drives creativity and success. We can’t wait to see what Ryan and the team achieve in 2025 (and how much Gen Z slang we’ll all pick up along the way)! 🚀 hashtag#SocialMediaLeadership hashtag#EmployerBrand hashtag#TeamCurrys hashtag#Innovation
