During our peak season, Corporate colleagues across the country switched their desks for a day on the shop floor, getting stuck in as a part of the in-store team during the busiest time of year in retail. ๐ค A huge thank you to the amazing store colleagues who supported their โnewโ team members as they were helping customers try new products, serving them quickly, operating Click and Collect with maximum efficiency, solving complicated tech queries, and even lugging white goods around! Without exception, they demonstrate the dedication, expertise, and effort it takes to deliver outstanding service to our customers every day.
Famous on Black Friday! ๐ Last week, we featured on ITV's This Morning, showcasing our epic Black Friday deals directly from our warehouse in Newark. Huge thanks to our amazing colleagues right across the business for their hard work this Black Friday, as well as the Newark team for their retro 80s fancy dress! ๐ฆ๐ช
Our annual Peak Event brings over 1,000 colleagues from across the business together, and with 50 supplier stands in 2024, our colleagues were able to get hands-on with the latest tech ahead of our peak trading season. Organising it is no mean feat, and Natalie, Senior Communications Manager: Planning, Events and Channels, plays a key role. In fact, she's already got Peak 2028 in the works. Reflecting on October's event, she said: "We had record numbers of colleagues telling us that 2024 was the best Peak event ever. Plus, everyone was impressed to see the actual Premier League cup ๐, courtesy of Sky!" Special thanks to our amazing events agency partner, The fresh Group for helping us make it all happen. With our Peak trading season well under way, our colleagues are geared up with the latest tech knowledge, and ready to share it with our customers.

With 1,300 incidents a day in the UK, the levels of crime against retail workers is completely unacceptable. This hashtag#RespectforShopworkersWeek, we spoke to Matthew Speight to find out more about this priority area of his. โColleague safety is a huge priority of mine. It was great to see the Government focus on this issue in the budget last week, taking a stronger approach to dealing with those who think itโs acceptable to shoplift and behave aggressively or violently towards our teams. โWe are always looking at improving prevention โ but the harsh reality is we will never be able to stop it completely. We will continue to make it very difficult for those who think itโs acceptable to be aggressive towards colleagues and other customers when stealing from us. โSo, itโs timely that this week is Respect for Shopworkers Week. Whilst the week, rightfully so, highlights the importance, for me itโs about ensuring our teams are respected every day they come to work. No one should be put in a situation where they feel scared at work โ and we must all work together with our fellow retailers and Police to stop these individuals and gangs thinking this is acceptable.โ Pictured - Matthew and Currys Christchurch Store Team
Some fantastic news out of Hong Kong! ๐ Currys HK has been recognised with a Good Employer Charter 2024 certificate by the local Labour Department. Colleagues smashing their learning and development goals โ we love to see it! Yasmeen, a Lead Talent and Acquisition Partner, recently graduated from our Effective Representative Development Programme. She says: "My colleagues and I have completed a number of virtual learning modules together. Our aim? To become truly effective representatives for our colleagues and business. Today was our graduation ceremony at Fort Dunlop! Iโve been with Currys for nine years this week, and it never fails to amaze me how we enable capable and committed colleagues to make Currys such an amazing place to work." Great work, Yasmeen!
Success at the Retail Gazette Awards! โญ Last week, our Newark Screening team took home the Game Changing Team award, and we couldn't be prouder! Lauded for their saving of thousands of products, one-by-one, from wasteful obsolescence. ๐ง We know we can't just flog it and forget it - everyone's relationship with tech needs to change. We're committed to tackling the e-waste crisis and our Newark Screening team are a driving force behind making that change. ๐ We were also proudly shortlisted in the Sustainability Game Changer category too, for our broader work to give tech a longer life. ๐ป
The most wonderful time of the year (also known as our annual Peak event) took place this week! On Wednesday and Thursday, we welcomed along our tech suppliers, from SharkNinja and HP to Dyson, with colleagues able to attend talks and product demos to keep them fully up to date ahead of Black Friday and the rest of the festive period. Alongside the latest tech, colleagues could meet some of the People team at the Currys Careers stand, and learn more about growth and development opportunities within the business, as well as the perks and benefits we offer. Colleagues also got the opportunity to connect with representatives from all our ERGs: Embrace, Pride at Currys, Disability at Currys, and the Women's network. It was all rounded off by the annual Amazing People Awards, celebrating our best of the best. It's truly a brilliant event and we're a little sad it's over for another year!
