A huge well done to colleagues in Newark for raising funds and donations for the local Salvation Army. With an increase of 34% in the number of children living in poverty over the last two years, the team’s efforts are more important than ever. Colleagues presented an amazing haul of over £2000 worth of toys, games, toiletries and tech, donated by colleagues and the Spirit Newark organisation. Technology is a lifeline, and over the last 18 months it’s become more important than ever. For older people it’s particularly crucial, which is why we’ve partnered with Age UK. Earlier this year, we invested in the charity’s Telephone Friendship service, enabling 100 colleagues to support older people through telephone friendships. Meanwhile, we’re helping digitally excluded older folks by raising money for Age UK’s Tech Connected programme. Through Pennies, a microdonation charity that’ present in stores, we’ve raised over £100,000 of a £1million target. As we celebrate International Day of Charity, we’re as committed as ever to meeting our fundraising goals.
Our business is proud to be one of the nation’s biggest polystyrene recyclers. Much of it is transformed into materials that are used to build new homes. Now, we’re going even further and inviting customers to bring all their polystyrene packaging – wherever it’s from – to their nearest Currys PC World store. Woo-hoo! Thanks to customers across the UK, we’ve raised £100k for Age UK! This amazing sum was donated via 400,000 microdonations through Pennies, our microdonation charity partner, who have been present in-store, nationwide, since 2020. Our goal is to raise £1million for Age UK’s Tech Connected programme, which helps older people get tech-ed up and online. We’re well on the way – thanks again to all who donated.
