We loved hosting a networking evening in our Salford store, ahead of the opening tomorrow. Guests enjoyed delicious canapés and drinks from local suppliers, plus an inspiring talk from our guest speaker and CEO of Foundation 92, Martin Ingham-Griffith and our Local Director Sam Onafalujo. So many great connections, valuable conversations, and new ideas shared. Thank you to everyone who joined us. hashtag#ThisIsRelationshipBanking hashtag#MetroBankSalford
This month, our Mforces inclusion network was proud to support the London Poppy Day, helping to raise vital funds for the Royal British Legion. We’re proudly committed to the Armed Forces community — from re-signing the Armed Forces Covenant to preparing our Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award submission for 2026. Whether it’s supporting cadets and Veterans or empowering veterans and spouses through inclusive hiring, we’re proud to stand with those who serve.
Black business showcase wrap-up 📣 🎉 24 events 🤝 494 attendees 🎤 58 guest speakers In October, our stores collaborated with our colleague inclusion network Mbrace, to host networking events dedicated to supporting the growth of Black-led businesses and professionals. We explored the research being conducted, demonstrating the challenges minority communities experience in the world of business and access to finance. Attendees had the opportunity to build personal and professional networks, increase visibility, and share their passion. We're proud to have provided a platform to showcase their contributions to local communities and the wider economy, and to have facilitated connections with potential investors, supporters, and partners. We are excited to continue amplifying the voices of diverse communities through future events.
Today, on Armed Forces Day, we’re proud to honour the selfless service of the Armed Forces community. We re-signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2024 and in 2021 we were honoured to receive the prestigious Gold Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, recognising our ongoing dedication. We also proudly offer Reservists and Adult Cadet Forces Volunteers an extra ten days of leave to support with training and duties – demonstrating our continued commitment to those who serve.
Every year, our colleagues are given a Day to Amaze – a paid day off to support a local charity or good cause. Recently, colleagues from our Fraud team used their Day to Amaze to volunteer with St Giles Hospice, a registered charity dedicated to providing personalised care for patients with terminal illnesses and support for their families. The annual TreeCycle takes place every January and relies on public donations in exchange for collecting and recycling Christmas trees. This year, our colleagues crewed two vans and helped collect over 60 trees. Thanks to the incredible support from volunteers and the community, the event raised a record-breaking £100,000, which will go towards a very worthy cause.
In 2021, we received the prestigious Gold Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, honouring its ongoing efforts to support the Armed Forces. Our Head of Operational Resilience and RAF Veteran, Simon Webb said "As a proud signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, it was a wonderful opportunity for Metro Bank to show its continued support for the Armed Forces community and their families. We are grateful for the chance to contribute to such an important cause.”
